Brazil 2014 World Cup....anyone on here planning on going?

I guess it depends greatly on whether or not England qualify but have seriously started thinking about saving and heading to South America next year....

Any other Addicks considering it?

  • Me and 2 or 3 uni friends are thinking of going as we would have graduated by then, saving it up and all year reckon it would be a real experience though. I have no idea how much it would cost though, anyone have any estimates?
  • Yes. Cost will be obscene. Only way to get around is coach (takes ages, will spend longer travelling than "enjoying" and will be rammed) or plane (prices will be horrendous in full knowledge that people won't want to spend a week on a coach).

If you are looking at doing the group stage games, draw permitting I would have thought you'll clear £5k no problem.

I was just thinking about being based in Rio for a week of the group stages....if England are there great but no sweat if not...would just be incredible to be there I reckon.

Expecting costs to be crazy, hoping to rent a big apartment with a few others.

remember its their winter and rainy season also it will get dark early.
  • I'm planning to go there for 2 weeks. Controversially, perhaps, I really do not want to see England - assuming, England qualify.

Its always around now till a few months before it starts that joe bloggs and his mates down the pub announce they are def going etc. Then the realisation of just how much it costs and the logistical nightmare it will be (esp Brazil) dawns on them and they spend the two weeks down their local.

My advice - if you want to go start planning and saving asap as it will be far from easy.

Personally I want to go but circumstances nearer the time will dictate.

Really fancied the game over their this summer but work has put pay to that.

My wife is from Brazil and mother-in-law lives in São Paulo, so am considering trying to going over there for some of the tournament.

Having been there a few times before, am sure the atmosphere and feeling for the tournament will be second to none, the logistics and organisation less so.

After going to South Africa and watching the dross dished out then (oh, and also having tickets for non-existant seats for the Eng v Slovenia game !), i'm not gonna waste my money on this, and seeing England struggle to qualify. Instead looking to save up to go across Oz by car to see the Cricket World Cup early 2015.

great idea .. France is a wonderful country to drive around and sample la dolcé vita (yes, I know that is eyetalian) .. avoid motorways as much as possible, French driving is as bad as their manners

errrr there are thousands and thousands of vans of all shapes, sizes and conditions on sale all over the place, adverts on the internet or cards in shop windows ... Transits or V Ws are best £ for £ value ... I would go for a Ford Transit with side windows, (transits keep on going and going and going) ... or if you can afford it, a purpose built camper van

true Mr P .. I was thinking more of price, older V Ws are hard to come by, newer 2nd hand ones are expensive .. I maintain that (say) a 10 year old transit van, rust free, would be the best v f m.

I follow england but won't going in 2014.

Will be renting à camper van for France though. Between à few of us it shouldn't be too pricey.

No,no,no dont rent it - just buy one here, travel around France then sell it when you get back - if you're clever, you might even make some money.
