The demeanour of the man is that of an ungracious, ill mannered, unsporting bully.

That said his achievements as a football manager over nearly 40 years are unparalleled and unlikely to be emulated by anybody else.

The greatest manager of all time. Moyes to be next manager of Utd. Utd like a manger for the long term.

Would love to know why people think Moyes deserves it, hardly got any kind of star quality on his record. For a team with no money Everton certainly spent some lumps over his time

End of an era. All down hill if Moyes. Like McGuiness after Busby.

Wow. Despite the strong rumours last night I really did not expect it to happen. Quite probably the greatest football manager in history and I wish AF a very long and happy retirement. With no world cup or Euros to look forward to this summer I thought it would be dull on the football front but the managerial merry-go-round will be fascinating.

Surprised at this thought he was going to carry on for a few more years yet. Going to be strange all my life I have been following football Fergie has been around. Don't see Moyes as being a brilliant choice it's got to be Mourinho

I think you have to say he won all these trophies and ALWAYS looked to attack, entertain and play football the right way.

Could not imagine à Fergie United team winning the champions league like Chelsea did in a million years.

Whatever people think of him, whoever takes over from him will need massive feet to fill his shoes!

    Kanu it is then.

I'm convinced that Ferguson has sped up the plan to retire in order for United to get Mourinho.

That was my first thought. Jose making eyes at Chelsea has forced the clubs hand and with Fergies operation it is good timing for everyone concerned. Except Chelsea...which would make everyone else wet themselves laughing.

If it stops Lincs posting 'furrybum' all the time, this can only be a good thing.

I'm wondering if Ryan Giggs will also retire now? I could understand him playing on under Fergie but maybe he would rather leave at the same time, given their close relationship.

Moyes would be a huge risk, managing moderate success at Everton ain't the same as managing one of the biggest clubs in the world.

They've lined up Mourinho and baited Chelsea to make a mug out of Abromavich all along.

Benitez hinted yesterday (with a smirk on his face) that JM was returning to Chelsea. he must be in on this "let's stitch Chelsea up" thing as well.

We must be one of few top tier teams that has never beaten a fergie United side, unfortunately we will never get the chance to correct that.
