It would piss me off a lot less if my school didn't have the Union Jack over all it's material.

Wouldn't English be more accurately depicted by St George's cross ?
So the rest of Britain don't speak English?

I think he just means that if you were wanting to symbolise that something was written in French you might use a French flag. If its in Spanish then a Spanish flag. Sure other countries speak that language, but it seems a logical choice.

If you were trying to symbolise that something was in English then maybe you might use the English flag. However, the Union flag is more instantly recognisable, so I guess that's why they use it.

Symbolising English by using a USA flag seems wrong to me, but I guess it depends on the market you are looking at.

Logic confuses many...now stop and behave yourself.

I would imagine most Chinese would not even know what the St. George's Cross is, many would recognise the US flag faster than the UJ.

So many people just assume white person = American.

Can I just say (and I think all CL members will agree without any doubt) that the new government led by the charismatic and wise Xi Jinping who as the all seeing General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, the President of the People's Republic of China, and the Chairman of the Central Military Commission brings much needed sanity and leadership to an unstable world all too influenced by those decadent imperialist Americans and their running dogs of capitalism. Indeed I would like to nominate president Xi as an honoury life member of CL in recognition of the great achievements of his short but remarkable term in office.

    (PS Does that help?)

I wonder if any other China based Addicks, such as Siv are having any problems.

You might be waiting a long time for an answer, if they can't log on!
Unless they have a V P N too, like almost all the foreigners here I know.
So why don't the locals just do the same so they can visit XHamster as well?
A few do, most are oblivious to the fact the internet here is even censored, so don't feel as it they are missing out on anything. Plus they are illegal and most locals are pretty fearful of breaking the law.

As an English teacher Stu, shouldn't that be harmonised?

Like color should be colour, and favorite favourite. Yeah, it should be, but no one in China wants to learn English, it's all about American English.
Thin red line Stu. We send you out there to keep English pure and you let us down at the first sign of Yankee imperialism.

I know for a fact that the CL team work night and day ensuring that the walls China puts up are breached so you can keep in touch. I think AFKA calls it his Mongolian programme.

It's a constant battle with my boss, sadly the parents pay the money, so they get what they want.

No need to let your standards slip on CL though Stu.

Well I'm off to Beijing on the sixth of June, looks like I will be out of the loop for a while over there. Not happy about that one little bit.

    No loss that

In 2008 when China sent the tanks into Tibet and imposed a complete media blackout it was sites like the BBC that people turned to in China to find out what was going on in their own country but weren't being told about.

Some people around the world rely on the BBC and place it in considerably higher regard than we do, even to the extent that they prefer it to their own very heavily biased official national media and this means that in places like China the BBC gets banned.

If you had ever lived or visited a nation which tightly controls its media like China you'd realise how valuable the BBC is - yep it isn't perfect and occasionally does some stupid things like spiking the report into Maggie Thatcher's best mate Jimmy Savile and refused to play "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" on the R1 chart show, so I can see why people think it's biased. On the whole though most people around the world - especially those living in nations with heavily censured media regard it as a beacon of light.

The BBC was also banned in Burma for daring to report some news that was critical of the Burmese authorities.

They're the most biased media organization in the UK imo, nothing to do with China.

Of course they do. But would you use those nations to demonstrate the English language ?

Being a teacher, here's your homework: what language would you associate with the Welsh flag ?

There you go, BBC works just fine for the rest of the planet and it's still the most biased media organisation in the UK (imo).
Nice to know the licence fee helps so many people around the world though!
