So Australia had the worst draw, Argentina had the best0

Ahhh gotcha cheers mateadrian said:
Uruguay was 10th favourite, Italy 7th and Costa Rica 30th. 10 + 7 + 30 = 47ValleyGary said:@adrian what do you mean by total points of draw??? What's the 47 points?

It's even better than that for Argentina (as I noted above) because their Second Round opponents will come from the second weakest Group (France 74). The Brazilian's worst nightmare has become a lot more likely.0

We're gonna win the World Cup!2

you need the being drunk thread but I admire your enthusiasm.mrbligh said:We're gonna win the World Cup!

Your first comment was something like that's us out then, after that all you did was big up the opposition. Realistic? Yes you are probably spot on Paul, but this response is the first positive thing you have had to say, can you blame me for thinking you might be a bit anti mate?paulie8290 said:
I am one of the most Patriotic people you would meet, All my point was Uruguay and Italy are going to be very very tough I would love us to get through but just cant see it.Algarveaddick said:
We get the idea, you want England to lose. Now can those of us who would like to see England do well have a natter about it? :-)paulie8290 said:
4-2-3-1 With Forlan upfront and the other 3 behind him Cavani right Hernandez left and Suarez down the middleSELR_addicks said:
Was just checking! All great players but not really sure how Uruguay can start all their strikers together.paulie8290 said:
Of course I mean him and he has scored 7 Goals in the 11 international matches he has played, He may play in Serie B but he is far to good for that 8 goals in 10 league games to this seasonSELR_addicks said:
Hernandez is Mexican, unless you mean the Serie B player for Palermo.paulie8290 said:

Unfortunately I think it is just the English mentality of trying to focus on the negatives every single time when it comes to the national team.
Some pratt in my office made a comment along the lines of "why does it matter? we aren't going to win it anyway!"1 -
Uruguay and Italy are probably not that pleased with the draw either.
Let's not write us off yet. They said Argentina Sweden and a strong Nigerian side was group of death back in 2002 and we were unbeaten.1 -
Hope he was parked up for his troublecafctom said:Unfortunately I think it is just the English mentality of trying to focus on the negatives every single time when it comes to the national team.

Italy are notorious slow starters in tournaments! Their superior technical ability gives them an advantage in the northern Brazil heat though.
We need a preparation plan specifically for this game.1 -

Has anyone seen this? The twitter account is in a different language but its worth translating, they said the draw was a fraude and predicted some outcomes before it happened, look at the time of tweet. A day before draw happened. Nothing about england in the tweets but its very intresting0
-
Any draw as needlessly complicated as the World cup one, is probably a bit dodgy! I could have made a fairer honest one with more even groups in 10 minutes!!!!!0

Anybody know (other than what's on Wiki) anything about Costa Rica ?0
-
They are a better side than we think they are1
-
Beat Scotland in 98 I think.0
-
That might be the worry - we don't know too much about them/get a bit complacent.se9addick said:Anybody know (other than what's on Wiki) anything about Costa Rica ?

In all honesty, England can beat any of these and also lose to them so they have a chance. If they were playing Germany or Spain they would have a 10% or lower chance of not getting beat. I'd say they have 40% with Italy and Uraguay and 70% with Costa Rica.1
-
Lets be honest England will beat a team with no real footballing record of note in Belo Horizontese9addick said:Anybody know (other than what's on Wiki) anything about Costa Rica ?

Before the draw, I predicted that we'd struggle to get through the group then lose in the first knock-out round. I'd now realise I was being a little optimistic................0

I agree Algarve. Read these posts on page two and you have said pretty much what I thought.Algarveaddick said:

Costa Rica came 2nd in the North American Qualifying group just behind the United States (winning all their home matches including a 3-1 win against the USA).
In terms of players they've Bryan Ruiz of Fulham / Bryan Oviedo of Everton and Joel Campbell a young highly rated Striker at Arsenal (who is on loan at Olympiakos because of Work Permit restrictions) - Paulo Wanchope of Man City is probably their most famous Footballer (who has retired now)
They're 31st in the FIFA World Rankings... Between Serbia and Romania... two places ahead of Scotland and this is their 4th time at the World Cup.
In 1990 they reached the Last 16 losing to Czechoslovakia
In 2002 they didnt get out of a Group containing Brazil, Turkey and China (1 Win / 1 Draw)
In 2006 they didnt get out of a Group containing Germany, Ecuador and Poland (Failed to get a result)0 -
We might beat Italy. They play us in Manaus. Costa Rica in recife where it rains on average 224 days a year and Natal where on average they have 97% humidity in June. it not all bad

Think Italy are being a bit underestimated here, in my opinion only Brazil and Spain are better and they are as good as Germany who they beat at the Euros and drew with in a friendly last month.1
-
Italy always start slow in competitions though, so i'm glad we've got them first.1
-
Nice to see a totally unbiased view being put forward about one of our opponents. :-)forzajuve_27 said:Think Italy are being a bit underestimated here, in my opinion only Brazil and Spain are better and they are as good as Germany who they beat at the Euros and drew with in a friendly last month.

England's group finishing position
30% Top .......40% 2nd ........ 25% 3rd ...... 5% Bottom3 -
Italy game is brought forward to 11pm our time (from 2am)0
-
It seems tv demands beats players' health...if it's really as bad as the media is letting on.

If I was being biased I would have said we were the best and will win it, the fact is that Italian football and Serie A often doesn't get the credit it deserves in England for whatever reason and that's not just my opinion but journalists and other people share this viewpoint.Algarveaddick said:

I think if you're going to be scared of Germany and Argentina then you can be scared of Italy.

If England finish second in the group, the past 16 game will be on our wedding day at 8, so I'm hoping for 1st or bust!!0
