  • Are you drunk again?
  • He must be.

All this applying logic to things, it's crazy.

[cite]Posted By: PassItToLeaburn[/cite]You know 'action' - a Charlton player missing a sitter, a misplaced pass, a long ball that doesn't work, someone backing out of a tackle. I know that's what I go to football to see - that way I can have a bloody good moan about it afterwards....

silly me! pass me the gin!

  • I don't understand watching football without a drink. The last time I tried I hated it, I think I was 12.
  • Was it a success?

  • Early it was ok up until about 6.30. Then it was so packed that the corner shop did a roaring trade in tins which everyone was drinking outside. All in all it was good night and I met a lot of faces that I hadn't seen in a while.

they ran out of lager about half hour before the match so that along to the queues forced people to go over to the shop which now must be praising the day they started selling booze.

Can't see the oak carrying on this whole silly idea to be honest , it didn't work too bad last night as all people wanted to do was get a bt of booze inside them

I hadn't been to the Oak for ages until last night. Think i'll give it a miss in future as when I go to a pub I generally like to have more than one drink an hour! Thank heavens for that off licence - i bet the fella thought it was christmas!
  • I think we should give credit to Curb it for trying to get an improvement.

And to the pub for trying something different. And last night was a bit exceptional.

But it amazes me in a business context that they dont make the most of the fantastic opportunity they have. How much money is to be made in that pre match 2 hours and 1 hour post match. Apparently there was supposed to be 10 bar staff. I counted 7. The argument was that there is no more room for staff than that. Rubbish there was more room behind the bar than in the rest of the pub.

Clearly for many the Oak is the pub of choice. 5 more competent staff for 3 hours on about 30 occasions a year would surely get the maximum revenue a huge profit and a decent service. Then if capacity is reached and its busy people can make there own choice re the alternatives.

It amazes me that they don't pre-pour drinks and have a couple of people constantly pouring more. A couple of people I was with just gave up and went elsewhere and we ended up in the offy - so they are losing out big time really.
  • Waited 10mins to get served so just gave up and bought 20 cans of fosters.

How a pub can run out of beer is beyond me.

Went back after the game, to find out they'd sold out of lager... draught and bottles! What a joke. How can that happen to a pub?

Think it'll be a long while before I bother with the Oak again
  • dont know why you dont try the liberal or cons club

  • Place was a total shambles. Used to love going down there but now not going back.

If you can't satisfy punters when you're only selling pints you might as well shut the place down.

    Joke.

They were hopeless on Friday and I'm really glad to hear that people are voting with their feet. Good on you.

Should be much easier to get a drink there next time :-)

    They need more staff.

    And more beer evidently.

What were the posters, Suze, for those of us who avoided the place?

The Oak has become a complete joke. Not enough staff, not enough beer, not a great job done on the redecoration and God help you if you try and raise any of these issues. I'm sure they did good trade on Friday but the corner shop must have been close behind. It won't be long till many of its patrons are shuffling off in search of pastures new. Where did it all go wrong?

Trouble is I won't be bothering with the Bugle anytime soon now so will indeed be looking for pastures new.

Anchor is a good shout when the weather improves. I don't mind the Swan when the weather is good either.

    What's the Valley pub like?

I think friday might have been an exception for anything. I have never ever seen the place so busy. You couldnt even get to the loo it was so congested. never seen it like that before.

He said two staff didnt turn up so that didnt help i suppose.
