We have already signed 5 players this window so its been a rather active one for Charlton ... Striker signing close and a defender in on loan next week make 7 deals

So Colin...Where are the 2/3 signings that GL said was hoping to be done on deadline day?....we brought in Watt and let George go...net effect is 0....lepoint comes in....Pig has gone, Morrow goes.... no-one in.....c'mon Colin even you have to see we are being fed bullshit and as for striker close and loan next week....please don't be so trusting...it ain't going to happen. RD's plans are to spend his dosh on SL....i bet we send some players there during the loan period.....we are being treated like mugs.

Taken Johnson to a separate thread
  • This is my 56th season supporting this football club. During that time, I have seen players, managers and chairmen come and go. There have been innumerable lows, interspersed with the odd high. However, these past three months have been down there with the worst of them.
I remember demonstrating against the then chairman Michael Gliksten in the late 1960's/early 1970's, for the lack of investment in the ground and the team. Were I fifty years younger, I would be doing the same against the current incumbent. Yet, Gliksten, for all his faults, was always to be seen at home matches, and was undoubtedly a Charlton man, albeit somewhat misguided as to what was the best for Charlton Athletic.
Then in the 80's we had the Sunley takeover which ultimately resulted in leaving the Valley for the best part of seven years. Even that decision could be understood given the state of the Valley at that time.
And then we had Slater and Jimenez whose reign could be best described as a period of masterly inactivity.
For all their faults, I would gladly swap M. Duchatelet for any of the above. This individual is bringing Charlton Athletic Football Club to its knees far quicker than Gliksten, Sunley or Slater/Jimenez. The difference is that, ultimately, those people stood aside and allowed others to take the mantle at The Valley. This time, there is little liklihood of Duchatelet relinquishing control of our football club which he appears to regard as his private plaything.
If, as many people believe, this season will ultimately result in relegation, I suspect there will be no easy or quick fix. We will become another Portsmouth - a proper football team who also have been bled dry. However, instead of having crowds of 16,000 in Division Two, as Pompey do, we will surely have 8,000 or less in Division One.
I remember standing at the Valley in the 1970's on one bitterly cold Tuesday night when Halifax were the visitors for a game played in front of less than 4,000. I thought those days were long gone. Just shows how naive you can be, even when you are in your 62nd year.

Johnson isn't a bad player, problem is we need a striker. Desperately.
We could have Terry and Vidic in defence, if we don't score goals we'll go down.

Samaras is a possibility in the loan window. Didn't someone mention him earlier today.

    No thanks

  • I think Roger Johnson is a really good signing

Except it'll prob mean TBH going the other way - can you imagine Johnson and Bikey playing together if Johnson's got an attitude problem ??

Keep trying to think of a song to sum up the Charlton transfer policy and all I keep coming up with is the Climax Blues Band performing couldn't get it right.

Last minute deals to come in...

Fek Awle (Turkish international forward 6'8'' unit, very tasty better than his cousin Bougah...)
Absaluti Toylit (Ghanian midfield playmaker just broke into the international squad)
Kishi Myars (Icelandic U21 goalkeeper, He holds the record for playing for all of Dutchovens 30 clubs in only two seasons)

    Believe everyone!

Tears streaming down my face (with laughter) re-reading this! Brilliant!!

Samaras was crap at the end for Celtic and I get the impression he's just after a pound note. Not sure he's gonna be interested in a relegation scrap.

Another one who's gonna be waving his hands around when we let in another goal.

Done deal then - a pound note is exactly what Roland's got in mind.

Couldn't wait til 11. What an incredible let down. It really is one own goal after another with this lot. I am actually curious now as to just how bad it can get.
