  • Go on then, I will dust the boots off and come along. Back in the day I played in the leaburn role, big man, holding the ball up for a little Paul William to smash them in...haha
might not be so mobile tmr!!! Just waiting on webby to get back to me he may play so that will be two of us.
  • Go on then, Trev if you really don't manage to get a full XI then I will be around to make up the numbers ;-) like I say no boots or pads here but anyone going with a spare pair of size 8-9s would be appreciated.
Looks like I picked the wrong week to give up the water pipe ...

The Hamlet guys have confirmed 12 are playing, so hopefully we can at least match a Ryman Prem side!

You've got a bare 11... hopefully no more drop outs!

As much as I'd love to join you, I'm injured... and would only re-take my Golden Slug status!

Not exactly the makings of an ongoing supporters team so far, but we will see how Saturday turns out.
Don't fret - the old (literally these days) CIFC team started with just 7 players - more than 100 played for the team over the next decade or so....

Monday 8th March 1999 (Carlsberg League, Mottingham)

    Heath Rovers 5-2 CIFC

    (Report by Rick Baker)

Charlton IFC came into being on a chilly South
London in New Eltham. Due to injuries, work commitments and an
organisational mix-up, the Cyberaddicks began the game with just
seven players, playing against an established team with substitutes
    and a set of spectators.

Two reinforcements soon arrived and the nine men of Charlton held
Heath Rovers to a single goal lead until the second half. This was
mainly due to a Herculean effort from centre backs Graeme Williams
and Jeff Prior, and especially from keeper Tim Chick. The
Cyberaddicks keeper, who once had a trial with Millwall, proved that
he still had the old magic, hurtling himself acrobatically to perform
    a flurry of fine saves.

It was a pity that the opening goal came from a defensive mix-up. The
Cyberaddicks were unfortunately unable to maintain their rearguard
action as Rovers introduced fresh legs, but it still took an
exceptional chip to beat Tim Chick. The third goal was another sloppy
one, the ball striking the author on the line and spinning into the
roof of the net. But the Cyberaddicks rallied, and when Mark Weaver
(non-lister), ran onto Jeff Prior's intricate through ball and lashed
it home, CIFC had their first ever goal.

But the fightback was short lived as Rovers increased their lead with
a goal that was so far offside it would have made Noel Whelan look
onside. The forward running directly in front of the ball carrier was
deemed to not be interfering, and the bemused defence could only look
on as the Uriah Rennie lookalike allowed Rovers to score. A fifth was
soon added, but Charlton pride was salvaged when Mark Weaver netted
for the second time, shooting over the keeper from virtually the same
    move as the first goal.

5-2 was not a bad result for the Cyberaddicks. The opposition, an
established team that play every week, knew each others names, and
made up for in numbers what they lacked in quality. CIFC wasted
several good chances as well as scoring twice with two men down, and
with a little practice the defence could mould itself into a solid
    unit.

Graeme Williams made up for in tackling and positional play what he
gave way to Jeff Prior in intimidation. Rav Bharji showed that he
would die for the cause, ( and he nearly did!), turning in a solid
performance whilst playing in an unknown position to him. Matt Owen
was industrious all over the (very large) pitch, and the remaining
non list members, but Charlton nuts, Mark Weaver, Richard Filer and
Kevin Everest ran constantly for the cause.

CIFC will be playing every week for the next ten weeks. A big thank
you to all those who turned out, and with a bit of luck, the
Cyberaddicks will have a full compliment next week. Any committed,
bored, retired or unemployed Charlton fans who fancy coming down and
watching, the next game is a 6.30 p.m. kick-off at the Coldharbour
    Leisure centre in New Eltham.

    Team.

Tim Chick; Graeme Williams, Rav Bahrij, Jeff Prior, Kevin Everest,
Richard Filer, Matt Owen, Rick Baker, Mark Weaver
What a night that was! The days when I still had knees. I remember when the 5th goal went past me, chasing the ref the length of the pitch calling him a rather unpleasant word for missing the offside! He took pity on us and didn't send me off as we only had 9 anyway!

Pretty sure 2 of those had near death experiences after the game. Rav was throwing up in the toilets afterwards and Jeff awoke at 3am with what he thought was a heart attack!

    Whatever happened to Rick Baker?

I think it's just a coincidence that a load of people dropped out after this post
  • Just had a very nice chap called Luke who saw the CAST article on the game and has asked to play, so another player recruited!

    Good luck boys.

  • Good Luck tomorrow chaps. Please remember you are representing Charlton so I expect lots of two footed tackles (preferably above the knee), lots of biting, elbowing and punching as well.

    All the best....COYR!

Ha ha :-) It's looking increasingly like I'll only make the bench ( Hurrah!) as a super sub ;-) as in if I go on I'll torpedo any chance of us winning :-)
Luckily I'm in training (sort of) for a 10k run at Brands Hatch next week, so I can run about looking busy for a bit, but hopefully now there will be enough young guns there so that I can stand around on the terraces with a nice coffee yelling at them where they're going wrong ;-)

Gonna try and get a team photo of everyone in their Charlton kit before kick off, hopefully a few of the game itself to post on here.

  • A Dulwich Hamlet song:

Edgar Kail in my heart, keep me Dulwich,
Edgar Kail in my heart, I pray.
Edgar Kail in my heart, keep me Dulwich,
Keep me Dulwich till my dying day.
    No Surrender!
    No Surrender!
No surrender to the Tooting scum!
  • Just bought some new boots. Well up for this!

Right lads after the great result tonight, lets make it 2 addicks wins in 2 days! See you at Belair Park at 10am tomorrow everyone! COYR!!
  • Blinding, well done chaps.
  • 4-2 sounds like a proper game.
  • Well done lads.
  • Well done and especially for organising.
  • Really enjoyed that - thanks again for sorting Trev. When they went 1-up after us hitting the post and the bar it all felt a bit too like actual Charlton but that second half was sensational from a team that had never met each other before. Looking forward to the next one! Luke (lanky lad on the right)
