Go out on the fire engine for an hour and a bit, come back to find us struggling.

only 2 other Test teams have won when scoring 136 or fewer batting first - and they were in the 19th century.

    Buttler lbw Lyon 9

    190-7

Surprisingly, we never appealed and the predictive tracking says it was going over.

Buttler is starting to pi55 me off.
He walks at Lords even though the umpire had given him not out ,and now he doesnt review when a) he's the last batsman b) we've got 2 reviews left and c) we desperately need the runs - and lo-and-behold...the ball was missing the stumps !!!
To me , it just shows a lack of guts, mental toughness and resilience. We're playing Oz ffs, try everything not to have to walk - don't just give it to them !!

Are you Australian? There is something called fair play and spirit of the game old boy.
  • Tbf in real time and even on slow mo replays it looked absolutely plum. Especially as it was given out on the field, he must have thought there was very little point reviewing.

Exactly. He would have asked Moeen, who would have seen it as absolutely plumb (like everyone else did)

Wot, like thinking that he'll save the reviews for Finn and Anderson ??

I realise this is the kiss of death but it's been great play from Moeen and Broad since lunch. At this rate we might not need to bat again.

    Broad c Marsh b Hazlewood 31

    277-8

Well played though to Broady, back to his old batting level. That was a crucial partnership.

I'm not seriously calling Moeeen a tailender. It's great for him and for England that he's embraced the number 8 role the way he has.

    Moeen's out - 59

Just need a cameo 20 from Jimmy and Finny just to totally deflate the Aussies now

    281 All out. Lead 145

    Anderson c Nevil b Starc 3

    Finn 0 no
Last 3 wickets fall for 4 runs. However, the good news is that the ball is swinging/moving.

England to win by an innings anyone?

Still over 50 overs left today. Unless we get them out, the aussies will be in front come stumps tonight. Just a matter of how many (if any) wickets we can get before they reach our score... I'm still not confident - too many years of watching England fail I think. If we get five by end of play tonight, I will breathe more easily...Still don't want to be chasing much more than 150 in the last innings against this lot!

Broad is very much a 'mood' bowler - when he's in the mood he's very good, and I'm hoping his innings will have given him some confidence.

Just edging it for me at the moment but I do admit I am no expert on cricket. Saying that broad is making a claim now.

I've often wondered about Smith, what with his pronounced movement outside off, whether it would be a good move to bowl around the wicket aiming at leg stump.
