Morgan Fox (ed. New contract extension)

Cant knock his crossing and attacking play but have no confidence in his defending at all and just wish we had another left back.0
-
I don't think anyway is saying 'told you so'. My comments to people last season were along the lines of give the kid a chance. I have no idea if he will be a good player or not. I thought Jermaine Darlington was going to get 100 caps, so what do I know.1

I remember reading that he was due to be released a few years back from the Academy and put in loads of work to make sure he wasn't. I think he falls into the not-so-technically gifted but prepared to work and improve camp. I thought he was good in both games this week and the Solly comparisons are fair. He definitely reminded me of a left sided taller Solly on Tuesday (watching from the unusual angle of West stand). The story of Morgan Fox since he made the first team has been one of improvement. It is still too early to call at what point that improvement will have reached its limit, but I don't think it has yet.
He's never going to be a massive fans' favourite, but I think he epitomises a lot of that spirit I like to see in the team and I'm glad he's here, playing for us, and that Luzon is helping his development.

Older fans like me might remember what used to be said about Kevin Keegan, not naturally gifted, but worked so hard to make himself a player.
He had a good footballing career.2 -
Football - and maybe life in general - is increasingly less patient with 'slow-burn' steady improvers, and is always looking for those who have amazing raw talent that seems to just need a little polishing. But not everyone can be a Gomez/Parker/Bowyer. With a player such as Fox, (and Pope, and, I think Cousins), if we can see gradual, continuing, improvement then there's a good case for giving him a long run of games, in the expectation that (say) this time next year we have a very good player on our hands.
I think Fox passes the test - showing a capacity to learn/improve - some players have it, some don't appear to. Callum Harriott, for example, doesn't seem to - and for me, Scott Wagstaff was a particular frustration in this regard. 3, 4 years into his career Waggy's game still had a tigger-ish, naive 'quality' that gave the impression he'd learned very little since breaking in to the 1st team.
He's young, he's improving and we've shown we can win games with him in the team. Isn't that enough?
(PS & fair play to Guy for giving youngsters like him a chance. QPR noticeably didn't, and rushed Konchesky into their team last Saturday. I know who i'd have rather had...)8 -

Hope he doesn't get his head turned. Bale may be on a mission to tap him up if Real are interested.3

Congratulation Morgan, always proud to see a Charlton graduate in an international squad.1

I'll take £5m now. Don't worry about the extra £25m.3
-
I like Fox and think he's a valuable member of our squad but that review is ridiculous. Rated at £5m? Crikey.1

will inevitably soon be grassing the top-flight and international scene
Grassing?0 -
Morgan Fox is one of my favourite players, I like him because I feel like he gives 100%, and rather than being an arrogrant prick and blaming everyone else when he makes mistakes unlike some players.... He knows he has messed up and is annoyed at himself...
But for £5 million I will drive him anywhere within the UK myself.3 - Sponsored links:

Fox worth 5 million ? .. that is fantasy football at it's most fantastic .. he's much improved from last season but really folks, he's still not all that2
-
In 'The Final Verdict' paragraph, is 'grassing' the same as 'gracing'? Who dem writ dis?2

Haha how embarrassing...1

£3.5 m for Gomez £5m for Fox?
Someone has either forgotten the automatic Charlton discount factor or inadvertently typed and extra 0. 1/2 mil if we are lucky as it is Charlton.1 -
Hilarious! Fox is a reasonable Championship level defender, but hardly the new Maldini!0

I needed cheering up, that is brilliant.4

Hope he is carrying a knock as in the last few games he has regressed.

Fox is a weird one because his potential really could be anything. When Powell first started putting him in he looked steady and had broken through at a later age than most really good youth players. At that point I wouldn't have said he looked like a likely Championship first teamer in the future, and certainly not one who would displace Wiggins but he's looked good at the end of last season and in this one and rightly kept Wiggins out. To get to the point where Luzon was happy enough with Fox to sell Rhoys shows how much he's progressed. I don't know why people like to pick on Fox but he's a hell of a lot further on than anyone thought he would be at this stage. He could end up being a Premier League left back or he could drop off completely. There's just no way of telling6

5 mil but Charlton are willing to sell for 500k with 50 quid add ons for every 500 appearances.2
