I've only just read this thread, glad the scumbag has come forward.
Is your daughter still wanting to come back Mart, or is she put off? Physical pain heals but being afraid or nervous isn't so easy and quick.
There are some real morons supporting us, I used to take my eldest daughter to games with me but she was forced to hear some scumbags shouting out racist comments which made her feel uncomfortable as she's mixed race, she was only about 9 at the time.
I don't care how apologetic people that are racist, abusive or violent at football matches are, the children that we bring are the future of our club and their experience is important they shouldn't be put off by scumbags like that. The scum should be banned for life, I know our support has dropped somewhat over the years but we are not that desperate to need people like that.11 -

But as you say after the picture was released, so it was hardly owning up. I can't see how coming forward after its a dead cert that he is going to get caught should help him in any way.Dave2l said:I'm not defending him he deserves the whole scale of his punishment which will hopefully teach him a lesson but if he does have at least a bit of a brain, even the tiniest amount, then he will be feeling like absolute sh*t over this where his impulsive really stupid action is probably extremely painfully regretful and embarrassing.
You get people that are just complete dickheads that need to be dealt with in the harshest way but even though the finger was already pointed and he was gana get caught anyway, he did own up.
Having said that if I was Mart I would just wana hit the bloke. It's quite a horrible story to be honest I hope for marts sake the man in question gets his punishment soon as possible and this is put to bed.3 -

Leave off, if you had witnessed what went on over Charlton 30/40 years ago, I would say it has improved considerably.sadiejane1981 said:I've only just read this thread, glad the scumbag has come forward.

I agree, things are better than they used to be, so we should accept a bit of racism/abuse/violence now and then.Robbo on the wing said:

I have read Sadie's post three times, I don't see where Sadie says things have got worse. She says [numbers] have dropped, but not that the situation - viz a viz violence and racial abuse - is any worse than 30/40 years ago, Robbo.Robbo on the wing said:

My point being that racism was far more extreme 30/40 years ago.
To be fair, I don't go so often now, but when I have, have heard none.0 -
Just because you don't hear it yourself, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I think people with ethnic backgrounds may hear it more, but that would suggest that it is somehow for their benefit too, quite pathetic when talking about a 9 year old girl though.Robbo on the wing said:My point being that racism was far more extreme 30/40 years ago.

I am also aware that racism is a lot less now than it was 40 years ago but how does that console a child that feels uncomfortable and unwelcome because of their skin colour? "It's ok sweetie they may be using the 'n' word and making monkey noises, but if you came 40 years earlier you would have been surrounded by them!"
Bottom line is it's unacceptable at ANY level.27 -
I go to about 50 games a season, what you have said in your second paragraph I have not heard in a very long time.sadiejane1981 said:

Having said that, in isolated incidents of course that is still not good enough.0 -
This was 5 years ago and she has been back since, I have heard it since very occasionally but it doesn't phase her anymore.ElfsborgAddick said:

There is only one punishment that is sufficiently cruel and draconian. A Charlton season ticket.3
