  • Poor old 'Arry.

    He certainly copped an eyeful.

  • On a serious note poor old Harold... His best years of raping and pillaging were ahead of him I expect too (If he'd been allowed in 1066 PC England)
  • Very sad - way too young RIP

I believe William will be a true English King through Diana's lineage.

    Well, what do you know?

Edgar the Atheling was actually proclaimed King of England in 1066 by the Witan, immediately following Harold's death.

    He lasted 8 weeks.

He never got round to getting crowned as his aristocracy decided to submit to William, once the Normans surrounded London.

Edgar was the nephew of Edward the Confesssor.
And the last of the Anglo-Saxon line of kings of England.

  • Old Mr Godwin must have been very proud of his son.

RIP Harold, and we'll keep an eye out for you.

Godwin was his father's first name.
  • William The Bastard left the Anglo Saxon dead unburied on the battle field for 8 years

    RIP H

Although, if Oggy is right, then Harold was the penultimate Anglo-Saxon King, followed by Edgar Ætheling.

We're visiting Battle Abbey during half term as my daughter is learning about it at school. Pity we'll miss it.

We've been invaded many times since 1066, just never conquered (Unless you count 1688 when the reigning monarch was thrown out and a foreigner put on the throne).

We did have a frenchman, King Louis I, ruling a large part of England for a year or more in 1215/6

Though we can argue what makes an attack an invasion and do invasions from Scotland count.

Yeah conquered was the word that I should have used rather than invaded...
