What about Watson and Edmund...0

Both lost yesterday... Watson had a chance to serve for the Match whilst Edmund won two sets but was hampered by crampMrOneLung said:What about Watson and Edmund...

The LTA have a lot to be proud for producing the likes of Murray and Konta. Well they would but for the fact that their input was minimal.
And until they start to fund tennis at grass roots level it will remain the same.

Meh... Its almost to be expected away from the French Open these days, he's almost like the male version of HingisAddick Addict said:Nadal out

Only the 2nd time in 44 Slams that he's gone out in the first round.ForeverAddickted said:

Seems at present Edmund isn't up to 5 set tennis, Murray suffered from cramp a lot at the beginning of his career.1
-
Didn't Murray start to train with weights around his ankles so that his legs wouldn't cramp as much when it came to long matches as they were used to being worked harder in training?0

Has Murray started yet? Was planning to watch but stuck in casualty with our 8 month old.0

Sorry- missed this thread. Murray won first set 6-0. Groth just won his first game to go 3-1 in the second.0

Hope things are OK.Exiled_Addick said:Has Murray started yet? Was planning to watch but stuck in casualty with our 8 month old.

Groth steps up, Murray holds to go 4-1, Groth holds to go 4-2, then breaks Murray to go back on serve. 4-3, Groth needs to hold his own to go equal in the second set.
Serves big to hold 40-15. 4 all.
Easy hold for Murray to go 5-4. Time for him to break again if he doesn't want to get into a tiebreak with a big server.
And Murray plays a couple of beautiful shots to break and win the second set 6-4.
6-0
6-4

Set 3.
Murray holds serve and lobs Groth in his own to go up 2-0.
Mild criticism from commentators: "Did he really have to lob him again?"
Easy hold for Murray despite a couple of good forehands from Groth. 3-0. Just too good, a real masterclass in tennis.
Some big serving from Groth to go 3-10 -
Had a bit of a fall and bumped her head. Seems to be fine, although she has a nice bruise coming out. Probably just worried first time parents being over cautious but figured better to get her checked out.Wheresmeticket? said:

Good to see Murray getting the job done, albeit with the usual mid-set wobble.1 -
Game 5, Groth challenges lineshot successfully and Murray double faults to go 30 all, but Murray ultimately cruises to go 4-1.
0-40 on Groths serve, who comes back but loses on a line call. 5-1. Murray serving fro the match.
And wins it.
6-0, 6-4, 6-1 with some beautiful tennis.1 -

Amazing that his Grand Slam victories and Davis Cup wins were well over 10 years ago. Impressive how he has kept going so long, despite the injuries and the next generation of players making winning Majors virtually impossible.Wheresmeticket? said:Lleyton Hewitt making an emotional farewell to his home crowd after his final game, won by Ferrer. Goodbye Lleyton, an amazingly long career and with his retirement goes the last link to the old era of Samprass, Rafter and Roddick etc which preceded this (and probably "the") golden age of Open Tennis.0

.
And in the modern era not many players at 5' 10'' or less win Grand Slams - and that's just the women!killerandflash said:

When Hewitt won Wimbledon in 2002, everyone expected him to dominate Tennis for the next few years, which never happened due to the emergence of Federer.
Interestingly, the women's champion that year was Serena (who also won the doubles with Venus)0 -
