Just got a Parking Charge Notice when I know for a fact that I did the pay and display thing. Bloody sharks trying to thieve £85 off of me. A word of warning to anyone who might be in the area, don't park in The Granary, Chelmsford.

People who pronounce 'ask' as 'arks'

    Or 'asked' as 'arksed'

I think 'arks' is a pronunciation of 'axe', which was used commonly in Old English, including by Chaucer, and would have been carried through the generations in certain regions. A lot of the 'rules' that people believe govern the English language are just what was used locally by the people who happened to print the first books on the English grammar in the way they spoke & wrote. English as a language doesn't really have these strict rules - other options/expressions are also valid, although I would have a preference for things like 'arks' that can be traced through the centuries over words like 'selfie' or the crylaugh emoji.
  • The lousy 500 quid donated to the charities of Pointless celebrities who fail to hit the jackpot. It’s Saturday night, prime time TV FFS, it should be £5000. (Oh by the way I never watch it - I'm too busy reading stuff).
