What if Roland read Charlton Life?

Imagine that Roland was now looking through the internet and came across this forum. To his dismay he’s found out that Katrien and Tony Cajones have been lying to him and its more than 2% of fans, more like 98% who want the regime gone. He’s seen the head of communications walk out after his “ill informed” rant. The security officer at the Valley has also quit because of the incompetence of the team he has put in charge. Because of his ignorance, the team is on the brink of relegation to the third tier of English football. No one respects him in England, they all think he is a madman, a laughing stock , a fool. He’s had Charlton fans come to Belgium and leaflet where his lives, they’ve been in his beloved St Truiden and protested. They’ve held a funeral for their club that has been reported on across the globe, not just in the UK and Belgium.

What message would you send to Roland?

What would you advise him to do?

Above all else, please keep it clean and be constructive! No swearing.

From me, it’s time to go Roland, it hasn’t worked and it will only get worse for you. The fans don’t love you, the people you put in charge have lied to you. You will never make this work. Talk to Peter Varney, he cares for this club. In you have any sense of responsibility, sell the club to him and walk away. You won’t beat us, we’re not “ignorant” like the Liege fans (as you claimed), we’re smart and you’ve only had a taste of what we can do.

Time to Go.

Surely there is only one question, huh.
    Have you been servicing Katrien?

You bought the wrong club. No-one likes you or respects you here. No-one thinks you are like Alan Turing. No-one believes you cockamamie scheme will work. Everyone thinks you are a crackpot. Results on and off the pitch back this up.

You will never make make money from this club without getting it into the Premiership. You will lose even more if we get relegated.

We won't stop until you are gone. Do yourself a big favour and get out sooner rather than later. The longer you stay the more your reputation and your wallet will be dented. Take Meire with you. Never was someone appointed to a position that they were more unsuited to. Go now before it's too late.

MK Dons is perfect for you.

No history, no fans with an expectation of influencing how their club is run, nice stadium with its own hotel and lots of restaurants all around, nice shiny seats too and a big car park.

Not Charlton, too much history here, too much expectation, no chance to develop the land or training ground, pesky fans who complain as they actually do know more than the idiots you've appointed.

You tried, it didn't work, cut your losses and concentrate on Alercon or STVV, anyone but Charlton.

Roland, less than £10,000 has been spent and you are seen globally not as being a visionary but as being weird.

    Dear Roland

You should realise by now that the team that you imposed upon us are appalling at their jobs. They have made it clear that they hate their customers (that's fans by the way) we are passionate about supporting Charlton.

We will not support your weird experient at our club. You see Charlton as a cash cow and have no interest in success on the pitch. This shows just how far removed from the real world you are. We will fight you in every way we can until you clear off back to the hole you crawled out from.

Your ideas are not welcome here, your CEO is not welcome here, you and your failed experiment are not welcome here.

To you Charlton is just about money but to many of us it is about our lives, our family our passion. You should look at the images of the number of supporters in the stands, not the fabricated figures released by your team. Next season will be much much worse.

Get out now and save yourself more grief and embarassment. We won't give up.

Roland. I won't say we were happy before you came along, because football fans rarely are. However, we were a lot happier than we are now, because we could come along on a Saturday and watch a team that had been built by a proper manager, working together and toiling away for the shirt. With the occasional exception there was mutual respect between the fans and the players. We didn't always win, but we did pretty well. In the last full season before your arrival we finished ninth in the championship.
Since you took over the club has gone downhill in every possible way in an alarmingly short space of time. You don't know what you're doing. The people you have employed don't know what they're doing, except for Ms Baroni, who promptly left when she realised what a mess we're in.
All I want from you, Roland, is to leave us alone. Sell up, get as much of your money back as you can and leave us in peace.
  • You should have bought CharltonLife as well...

Hi Roland, if you are reading this I'd like you to be aware that you are a laughing stock in the football world and outside.

My six year old son dislikes the way that you are running the club so much he has a Roland Out sticker with your face on it which he uses for target practice every day.

In the morning, getting ready for school he can often be heard singing 'we want our Charlton back' and 'we want Roland out we want Roland out'.

He asks me, 'dad, when will Roland leave so we can go back to not protesting again'

Upset by the rapid turnover of inexperienced managers since Chris Powell and the rapid turnaround of players who don't make it he has embraced the protests since November.

Please sell the club, the experiment has failed and we want our Charlton back.

It will not get any better for you Owning the club, me, my son and the rest of the Charlton support promise you that.

    Why give yourself all this grief at your time of life RD? You gave it a go in the second tier of the best league in the world and it just hasn't worked out and to be honest was never going to, why? Here's some of the main reasons;

    - Management on and off the field with a complete lack of experience of Championship football and a ridiculously high turnover of the former.

    - Ridding the club of quality experienced Championship players and replacing them with cheap foreign imports not up to standard.

    - Cutting the playing staff to a bare minimum at the start of the season with an over reliance on youth and severely damaging some of those players progression.

    - Treating the fans with contempt, without whom you have no club and insulting them, not least of all by pointing the finger of blame at them for the sad state of affairs which has arisen.

    - Having no regard for the history or traditions of this once great club which only a decade ago was held up as the prime example in this country of how to run a successful football club.

I can go on but you can see that notwithstanding the movement of FFP goalposts your break even / player farm experiment has failed miserably and you will only continue to throw good money after bad if you persist with this crazy ideology.

Do yourself a favour, think of your health and not least of all about your family having to sort this mess out should anything happen to you, sell up now and enjoy your retirement, you know it makes sense. Peter Varney is only at the end of the phone or an email but please don't delegate this approach, as your underlings can't be trusted, they are only interested in their own self preservation!

If Roland reads this he should realise that his ideas might work, but not at Charlton Athletic, especially as the fanbase of Charlton Athletic simply won't accept or take part in his experiment.
Look for a club that will voluntarily accept the experiment, and want to be part of the vision, talk to prospective investors and quietly move on.
Roland think of it like going to a restaurant. You thought you had a good table, but it turns out to be by the door to the kitchen and the passageway to the bogs. Move to a different table, because the restaurant isn't going to be rebuilt around you.
