The sacking of SCP

We saw them come in and sack Powell, appoint a manager who had work at Inter Milan and signed a few players spending above a million. We hadn't spent that on our whole squad the season before so a lot of people were excited if not confused and it all happened so quickly.
Had we known what RD and KM were all about at the time, I really don't think I would have let the sacking of SCP and the sale of Kerms happen so easily.
They have destroyed this club.
What I would do to have SCP back as our manager, whether that be in League 1 or League 2 I couldn't care less. I just want to be able to go and watch my team, managed by a manager we all love with players who give 100% and that is what you get under Powell.

It puzzles me how Powell has formed such a strong bond with Charlton given that 98% of our fans are racist.65

If they want to stop the protests there are two people they could bring in that would work wonders - Alan Curbishley or Chrissy Powell. Give them control and a reasonable budget we can all start concerntrating on football again. We know Chrissy can get us out of League One thanks to recent history!4

What is most insulting is that they are now talking about the importance of rebuilding everything to make it proper Charlton, seemingly oblivious to the fact that's what they had when they took over, but they demolished it.
I've had conversations with so many people in and around the club over the last few months. The only people who have got a good word for her seem to be those who wouldn't have it so good if someone with good judgement was running the club. Not a single player I talked to at the POTY do had a good word for her, and the speeches to a man markedly overlooked her for a thank you.
The best thing they could do now is sell the club. The second best would be to go grovelling to Powell, apologise, give him full control, win promotion and then fuck right off.
Surely no one thinks whatever they do this season it won't go back to the norm if we get back to the Championship.33 -
They wont go back to Powell even if he is the answer to their problems due to personal pride and ego. I'm sure he would come back given full control of the playing side - within reason of course. But he isn't a manager to spend what he doesn't have anyway.
If he was back in charge, I'd definitely buy my season ticket - even with these idiots still owning the club.7 -

Chris Powell could get us back to the Champions League, no doubt. But would he choose to work with these idiots again?

Go to Rotherham and ask to speak to Warnock. Pay him what he wants on a 5 year deal and the job will be done.2

Oh come on, some revisionist stuff here. We were playing terribly under Powell by the end.6

Without trying to sound all "told you so" about it, I had a bad feeling about the Belgians the minute they walked in and started sending random players over.10

What do you expect? We were in the Championship with half a squad of League One quality players. I thought he made the best of it. 9th in our first season and quarter final of the FA cup the next.colthe3rd said:Oh come on, some revisionist stuff here. Hoof ball to kerm or in league 1 pass the ball to BP and let him run.. A bit like school football at times BUT still 100% better than anything since1

Yet had they come in, given him a decent budget to spend he could have improved the squad and better players would have led to better football.colthe3rd said:Oh come on, some revisionist stuff here. We were playing terribly under Powell by the end.
Instead they thought they knew better and wasted a lot of money on the players that aren't good enough or suited to the Championship.
In November KM claimed they spent £9m on players. We'd be in a far better position now if Powell was kept on and allowed to spend even half of that.25 -

No way will Powell ever consider coming back with this owner. Some may argue we weren't playing that well in his last season, but remember he was working under Jimenez and Slater with absolutely no money to strengthen for the first half of the season, then having to deal with the new owner/ CEO for the second half. I doubt we could have played well under anyone4

It's undoubtedly the worst part of this whole sorry scenario. After 6 years, just when we're back to having a club we're proud of again, some maniac reduces us to rubble. Vintage Charlton life.rikofold said:What is most insulting is that they are now talking about the importance of rebuilding everything to make it proper Charlton, seemingly oblivious to the fact that's what they had when they took over, but they demolished it.

Next campaign should be to bring back Powell as manager and Curbs as Director of football.2

Shoot me down in flames ladies and gents but I would prefer a manager that's had a little more success than Chris Powell. We had a great L1 promotion season, 9th place in the Championship the year after and then it went pear-shaped. You may talk about the quality of the squad but then he went to Huddersfield where he certainly didn't pull up trees.
I wouldn't have said Rotherham's squad was better than ours but Warnock did a fantastic job, so it's not necessarily about the squad, more what you can get out of it.
Love the man for who he is and what he put into our club but I don't think he's the managerial godsend some people on here do. I would be happy to be proved wrong.15 -
But KM is going to have a tough job persuading any manager with experience in, let alone someone who has had more success than Powell.WasCharleyOne said:Shoot me down in flames ladies and gents but I would prefer a manager that's had a little more success than Chris Powell.
What the club needs right now (aside from new owners, that's a given) is a manager who can bring the heart back to Charlton, to understand what it means to pull on that shirt, what staff the club needs, selecting players that fit the 'Charlton' mould. Name me two other people who could do that, Curbs? Steve Brown? not many others I can think of.
Will SCP take us to the height of the premier league and European football, no, probably not, but I think for now someone who can do all the above and give a good shot at getting us out of League 1 I for one can't think of anyone better.
Sadly, under this regime it's about as likely as Meire keeping her mouth shut for a week. He won't return, unlike Meire he is a proud and principled man and although he must sit there almost daily thinking 'if only' he's too 'decent a chap' to fall for their lies, lies and more damn lies.3 -
It's easy to say with hindsight that I had severe reservations about the regime very early doors and fair play to the OP for his take on a new broom not sweeping so clean nearly 30 months on.
Chris Powell stood up to the Rat and put his own team (which badly let him down) out at Sheff Utd, the rest is history.
Many hailed Riga as our hero and saviour, yep games in hand, the bulk of CP's squad and all of CP's backroom staff! And how did Riga, deemed not good enough to retain after his 'miracle' act in 2014 get on second time round? He sold his soul to the devil and was found out.
CP is well out of it and no way should he return to this madhouse and neither will he. Rant over.9 -
Powell kept Huddersfield up in his first season in charge. This season, Huddersfield were 18th in the table when they sacked him in November. They finished 19th. No one can claim Powell was a runaway success at Huddersfield, but with a small budget he achieved what could reasonably be expected.WasCharleyOne said:Shoot me down in flames ladies and gents but I would prefer a manager that's had a little more success than Chris Powell.
