Hardlines Gers, But how on earth did you ever get to the final?? Did Rangers have a shot on target or any more than a two-pass move?

Crap game all round - Wished I watched the other game now!

I'm glad Rangers lost: Crap, negative football. I watched highlights of the semis only yesterday and was amazed by the contrast of the two finalists' styles. A match between an attacking team and a defending team (like tonight) can be interesting but once you get two defensive teams it's really dull. If Rangers had won it would have encouraged other teams to follow their tactics so I was very pleased to see them lose in the end. They didn't have a clue about how to attack once they'd gone a goal down.
Well done Zenith dishwashers - amazing that they got this far really.

Yeah, it was really lucky of them Panathanikos could only score 1 goal against them over 2 legs, Werden Bremen couldnt score against them over 2 legs and they scored 3 in between, Sporting Lisbon the same over two leGs whilst Rangers scored 2, and the same goal drought from Fiorentina and Rangers win a shoot out, would Fiorentina be more justified to be in the final then????

Yes because they tried to score. If everyone played like Rangers, football would be like watching paint dry.

Read it again, Rangers scored 3 against Werder over two legs, 2 against Sporting over two legs, both games without conceding, and scored 1 AWAY against Panathanaikos to win on away goals, so who was trying to score????
Granted no goals against Fiorentina, but isn't defending a part of the game also, I've seen many a Charlton game away from home where we've battled against better sides, 0-0 at Old Trafford New years day 1987 or 88 being a prime example, battered for 90 minutes and only the defence and Bob Bolder saved us, does that make that result worthless???

England battled to a 0-0 draw in Italy in 1997 WC qualifier to qualify for WC 98, again, backs against the wall, doesnt or didnt lessen the achievement.

Liverpool change their Euro game style to get results, to nick results, so 2 CL finals in 3 years must be a poor effort in your eyes.

    DA9 well put buddy

i agree we were not very attack minded but then when you have played 19 european games to reach the final something must be going right, we came out of a tough champions league group and then got to the final of the uefa,

the thing i cant believe on here is that as addicks we watched negaive boring football for years and was quite happy to do so as it kept us in the prem

And the CL games also included a very good 3-0 AWAY win to French champions Lyon, obviously negative football caused that, what were they thinking of.

I thought Zenit were quality and played Rangers off the park.

I hope those of you who travelled up to Manchester weren't watching the game on the big screen that broke down........ shame about the violence that followed it too.

Zenit were too good for Rangers, but well done to the latter, to get to a UEFA final is still an achievement.

Indeed, we have our chavs, they have their neds, morons, the Scottish press & Uefa will lap this up, they didn't want Gers there anyway.

Who really wants either of them to win? Anyone but the Old Firm would be such a refreshing change.

True GH , but it dont excuse some of that last night, mindless, not even a valid reason for it, and stabbing people, whats that about, at least in our day we had an opposition to look for and rules and SOME morals, misguided ones, but we had them all the same.

A slightly prejudiced view I admit, but knowing the Russian blase attitude to violence etc, who is to say the Russian that was stabbed was not a result of a "little local difficulty", rather than an opposition fan? The report says he was stabbed in the seating area (ohh-err missus), which would suggest it was probably one of his own?

Very dis-appointing viewing last night but not un-expected anybody who can beat bayen Munich 4-0 in Europe are no Mugs. Well done Gers though just beaten by a superior side on the night.

As for all the whiners on here about boring football perlease you have clearly never even played the game to say such crap, when you play against a superior side which Zenit clearly were, it is difficult to get any pattern of play going. Probably worth mentioniong the fact that Rangers have played nearly 50 games more than Zenit so far this season.

Domestic Treble is still on Follow Follow

Agreed, very harsh for people to slag off Rangers for negativity when they were up against such a talented team. If Rangers had gone gung-ho then Zenit would have sliced them open and it would have been a slaughter. If Ferguson's shot had gone in or they had nicked a goal from one of those half chances then Smith would have been hailed as a genius.
I think Zenit looked as good as anyone else I have seen in Europe - what happened to them in the ECL, were they not in it or did they get knocked out?

Its just Rangers haters, read my earlier reply, the facts are there to see, 1 boring semi final when they had to grind out a result and beaten by a better team last night, end of.

If manure or cheslki were in line for 4 trophies people would be wetting themselves, manure can still win two and the papers will be all full of double talk leading upto next weeks CL final, The treble is still on, Follow Follow, WATP

Brilliant scenes there and an astonishing sea of blue... watched it in relative peace in the Velodrome next to the ground... there were well over 100,000 there and Manchester was shambolic in its response

    - the crappy screens (ours turned everything green for most of the 2nd half)
    - no signposts
    - lying to people that there was no big screens around the stadium, only to turn up at the ground and find them there and half empty with severe strain on the city centre positions
    - no extra transport (in fact trains cancelled, including mine)
    - OB battering seven shades out of people
    - most places running out of alcohol at 2pm!

god help us with the Champions League Final/Olympics

so much for Manchester City Council saying everyone to come for a party atmosphere... do your bit organising then!

Sounds like the police were put in a terrible position in Manchester city centre, and when the screen went off the reaction was stupid in Piccadilly Gardens
