Charlton confirm Nugent in caretaker charge for Brizzle Rovers tonight. Interview process still ongoing.

Was always looking like an appointment at back end of this week. If it is Black Friday then I'm going to be fuming.
If no one comes in until the end of the week I'd HOPE that Nugent is in charge for Sheffield United... Dont really want someone coming in late and then trying new things ahead of what will be a huge match!!0 -
One of the least surprising comments i've seen on this site!Redrobo said:
I heard the interview (by the way KM, both the interviewer and Lee were in the same room!), Lee did not sound like the brightest button in the box and I think he may struggle to get his point across without punching someone.Chris_from_Sidcup said:
In a Kent newspaper/website why are Leeds even mentioned in the headline? Why not just "ex-Charlton man wants to return to manage them"c4fcdenmark said:Ex-Leeds and West Ham man wants Charlton Athletic return

What could go wrong?
I also think that if there was even a sniff he was being considerd for a job, his past court case would make it very difficult. Not someone I would want anywhere near our club.2 -
I was in the same team as Lee Bowyer (and Jason Tindall incidentally). Excellent footballer was Lee but I'm not convinced he'll be barging the door down at Mensa any time soonChris_from_Sidcup said:

No he wouldn't. He really struggled in MLS, a league played at a far slower pace. He's done. And given he never had any positional or tactical discipline as a player, I see absolutely no reason why he should be allowed to be a coach or manager straight away, especially without doing his badges.CAFCsayer said:Irrelevant question... What would people's take be on Gerrard being appointed player manager considering he's probably exactly what we need in midfield and would score goals for fun
Oh, that's right, because he's England's Brave Steven Gerrard of the Premier League (TM) and if he was a good Premier League and England player he must be ready for management! Like Paul Ince! Or Bryan Robson. Or Alan Shearer. Tim Sherwood. etc. etc. (See also: Giggs, Ryan)8 -

Apparently Gerrard hasn't even started doing his coaching badges, has no experience of doing anything like this so surely needs to go to somewhere like Liverpool as a normal coach for a year or two then watch and learn, study all the various aspects of coaching etc. (Sports Science) and then see if Football Management is for you.
Same with the England role, have seen that Gerrard and Lampard are being linked with coaching roles below Southgate and the National Team - Why, because they've represented their country, thats all they've done because when you look in depth they've done very little for their country other than being part of the Golden Generation alongside Scholes / Ferdinand and others who all happily tell us that the current crop are over rated yet conveniently forget they managed nothing themselves!!5 -
Always rated Robinson as a manager and never really got the dislike. Set his teams up well, played attractive football, overachieved at MK Donald's over a period of time.
Against him though (and this if purely suspicion backed up by zero knowledge), it wouldn't surprise me if he carried a touch of off field baggage and reminds me a little of Paul Jewell / Pardew Iin terms of potential arrogance.
Actually think this appointment is going to be quite fascinating. One thing I'm convinced of is that we will not see Roland sell until some quite lumpy player sales have gone through. To me it's the only way he will get out some of his 'investment'.
Any new manager with any credibility will be aware of that and will be seeking some squad stability assurances for January at least, which if was the case would mean we wouldn't be looking at a potential ownership change for another 7-8 months at a minimum:-(
If Nugent comes out the next week with half decent results, the job will be his I reckon (with limited wage bill impact to Roland).3 -

Nugent has said he does not want the job.0

What other club would need to tell the fans that the search for a manager is 'ongoing'. I mean you'd hope so, wouldn't you. It's like they just remembered they're meant to be looking...10

With any normal club, I'd expect a clear recruitment plan in place (or even completed) before the previous incumbent was dispatched. Surely it's not too difficult: x# days for sorting initial applications, x# days to hold interviews, x# days to make decision and sort any formalities.ateamofcorygibbs said:What other club would need to tell the fans that the search for a manager is 'ongoing'. Their statement gives the impression that they don't have the slightest plan for managing the process, they're just waiting for something to turn up. Like so many other things, it's as if Charlton is a rudderless ship.3 -
I have no doubt that there is a plan in place.
I also have no doubt it's a shit plan.19 -

Americans always use singular for teams (Man Utd is top of the league etc) while traditionally in the UK we use plurals. But we are now in the hands of Europeans who learned their English from Fox News so what do we expect.LargeAddick said:
Really? Think it's poorly worded myself. Shouldn't it be 'Charlton Athletic are' not Charlton is'?cafc-west said:Good to see an update on the O/S. Very professionally worded - work of the new comms guy? Hope Nugent is on the list...

Assume for a second this might happen (it won't, but ...) then anyone starting out on the back of a reputation as a good player would be crazy to launch a managerial career at a club ripping itself apart, with an owner who cannot help interfere, a CEO who is loathed and a media laughing stock, and a life expectancy of recent managers being measured in weeks rather than months. If he even fired off an application then he is in desperate need of a new agent.CAFCsayer said:Irrelevant question... They have "moved" to update the supporters. Suggests the original position was to not update supporters.Stig said:

We now also know they do not intend to appoint the worst manager for the job.
Better than nothing I suppose.6 -

cant win with some of you. If they didn't say anything, you'd be moaning that nothing was going on - they tell you that interviews are taking place & you still moan.........
I'm not on their side, but Jeez - cut 'em some slack.5 -
that would be a fair point is they hadn't said "there will be no further comment".golfaddick said:ateamofcorygibbs said:What other club would need to tell the fans that the search for a manager is 'ongoing'. Plus the horrible third person press release with no quotes and no author.
So no, I'm not going to cut the regime some slack. They created the mess. The Comms team, yes, they are trying to hold things together in a near impossible situation.8 -
I agree not everything is black and white, but why issue a statement to merely say what we all know/hope is happening, and also to do so days after saying there would be no more statements until someone had been found.golfaddick said:ateamofcorygibbs said:What other club would need to tell the fans that the search for a manager is 'ongoing'. You can't have it both ways, the more communication the better surely, after all, isn't the lack of communication one of ours and Cards stated issues with the regime?7
