Thanks for the tips. We might decide to buy.Big_Bad_World said:
.....don't forget Steve Morison as well.cafc_harry said:Christ people give the bloke a chance. Imagine if everyone ever wrote off players signed from non-league. Look at Gregory at Millwall now for one example. Vardy for god sake. Yes I hope that's not the peak of our January signings but I'm not complaining.
We've also got what looks to be like another diamond in the rough, in Harry Smith.
There are players out there that can make the transition. Finding them and then putting faith in them is the hard part.
Both Morison and Gregory had their detractors after first signing and going through a barren spell.2 -
Michail Antonio started at Tooting and Mitcham.
The skill is spotting the talent and developing it obviously.
As we did with Lookman from Waterloo F.C.2 -

IIRC Andy Gray had some major personal issues when he joined us - his wife was very ill.ricky_otto said:
He was also on a run of 1 goal in 17 games before we signed him.kentaddick said:
Andy gray was a seasoned pro who had finally found his club in Burnley and Pardew thought he'd bang in the same amount of goals without playing to his strengths.GreenWithEnvy said:And we have been known to Charltonise a few players in our time too. Andy Gray is one that springs to mind. Having a big name does not equate to a big performer.
He was also a penalty specialist. Hadn't he scored 80% of his goals that season from the spot? We didn't win as many penalties as Burnley so his goal rate suffered.1 -
Andre Gray was playing non league until two season ago.
The players are out there, it just the skill of finding the correct ones.1 -
I thought originally this was about the Welsh Andy Gray from 1987ishricky_otto said:

Fella at work is a die hard Sutton supporter who goes every game home n away, he said he is too good for them and should be playing in a higher league0

While I'm not going to get excited by non-league signings, let's not forget that's how we got Colin Powell.4

Karl wants a no 10. Perhaps Cristian Benavente who used to play for MKD and now plays in BELGIUM? Or can we recall Ceballos in January from a SLL?0
-
Roarie Deacon was very good in the win over Dartford, but as someone who was only released by Crawley in the summer, he doesn't seem to fit the bill of someone who's worked his way up from non league football, getting better every season0

Wouldn't be surprised if it was the Gillingham right back - Ryan Jackson, he impressed when we played them earlier in the season.0

Bradley Dack would not come to Charlton. He would go to a champ club like QPR, Reading etc. Think we need to forget that one IMO1

Zac Clough
(never gonna happen it'd be like Bolton signing Lookman from us)0 -
We kept getting told this in the summer but he's still at Gillingham.DamoNorthStand said:Bradley Dack would not come to Charlton. He would go to a champ club like QPR, Reading etc. Think we need to forget that one IMO
