Because the selectors knew Gaz Baz would take them apart ;)

He's still in (q kiss of death), and has scored tons of runs this season (averaging 94 over 13 innings) - that's why he's playing !
This might come back to bite you !
    Yep knew it.

Ballance will score a double hundred, look solid for the rest of the series and be our top run scorer in the Ashes in a few months. ;-)

Sorry, my mistake, the wicket taker was actually Callumcafc

Ballance looking good but still gets stuck in his crease so, if he ever misses it, he's out.

    He missed

Either way, he's not a Number 3, that's not his position for Yorkshire.

Root dropped at slip. A difficult chance.

    63-3.

We've laboured this one before and just don't think he's an England player against the best attacks whatever number he bats. The quality of the bowling is nothing like as good as it was pre modern era when the best bowlers in the world would return year on year to play here.

With all due to respect to messrs Harmer, Abbott, Coad, Porter, McClaren, Berg, Overton, Footitt etc etc, they are simply not in the same class as the likes of Roberts, Holding, Walsh, Marshall, Garner, Proctor, Donald, Hadlee, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis etc etc plus, of course, our own best bowlers who rarely play for their counties. Consequently, our batsmen aren't tested on a regular basis and for some the step is just too far.

It doesn't matter how many runs Ballance has scored at County level. He is not good enough against top class attacks like South Africa at TEST match level. He started his career well but has been found out. Just bowl it full and he will be out LBW.

Bairstow, another stuck in no mans' land, and goes LBW

    76-4

I just hope that Root can be persuaded to drop his mate Ballance. Too many times in the past Captains have been allowed to favour their county colleague to the detriment of the England team.

Ironically, almost, if Cook were still captain we'd probably have Westley batting there, and it'd probably be the right call

I don't remember Cook bringing in too many Essex players, Bopara maybe, though that's with good reason. Westley scored a ton for the Lions recently... not sure where he is in the pecking order, has done OK so far this seasons

Is Hales not in contention ?

No chance. Doesn't even open for Notts in Div 2 and has the same issues at Test level as others that have failed.
  • 20 minutes into the second session and we still haven't completed the overs allocated for the first session...

Something really needs to be done about this.
  • Despite the fact it has missed the bat, how has he given the benefit of the doubt to Rabada for no-ball?

  • How many times have Root & Stokes dug England out of a hole!
  • Morkel bowls Stokes, but it was a huge no ball...

    Hahaha.

Something has to be done about the slow over rates, it's getting more and more ridiculous.
