  • Getting up at 05.45 to take someone to the airport, having been up 'til 01.45 waiting to meet someone at a villa with the keys (they did not turn up - plane turned back due to emergency, replacement plane sent was smaller and my guests were not on it - didn't think to tell me). So, knackered and grumpy on the way back from the airport I spot my neighbour, who has mental health problems, walking up the hard shoulder of the dual carriageway. Apparently he had a bit of an issue last night and the police sent him to hospital in Faro for assessment. At about 06.30 they released him, but left him to find his own way back to Albufeira with no transport and no cash, 35km away! He wasn't even on the best walking route.

I was so pleased to just happen to be in the right place at the right time to rescue the poor sod. The odds against must have been phenomenal!

But Palace - lacking in composure and confidence - were unable to capitalise on the chances that fell their way, with Scott Dann seeing two efforts from close range blocked on the line and heading a sitter wide in the closing stages.

They remain without a league goal or point this season under Dutchman De Boer, chronically short of confidence and second bottom of the division.

They are also the first side in 93 years to lose the first four matches of a top-flight season without scoring a goal, since Preston in 1924.

You should train them to pick the puppies up in their mouth and Sprint off across the field. You then look all worried and say " oh Christ not again..."

Always takes me a minute to get my head around the fact that wlthe star I'm looking at might not actually even be there anymore.
