Decided to watch it at home with my Dad over.
Glad we did, great game and great result.5 -
Ha, I'm usually right about Charlton results about twice a year so you were unlucky picking today to call me out.Covered_End_Lad said:@Exiled_Addick also fair play buddy you were right to doubt us negative Nancys. Wish I had your optimism, 24 years of supporting Charlton has made me a nervous wreck
I've been supporting this rabble about the same amount of time as you. I've learnt over the years that nights like tonight, when it looks like all hope is lost, is when we most often pull something out the bag. It's the days you think they might actually do something when it usually falls apart.
Besides, I've seen us get stuffed enough times now that it doesn't scare me anymore and supporting the team when they're winning is easy which is why most people follow a Man Utd or a Chelsea or whoever. Nights like tonight are what being a fan of a smaller team are all about. Everything is going to shit but you're still there, in body or spirit, backing the boys and believing tonight is when it'll change. There is, after all, always a chance, no matter how slim.8 -

KAG doesn't do a great deal wrong with any of his chances for me. First one maybe rushed a bit more than he needed to. Second one the angle was just tight and there were two players on the line, maybe could have pulled it back for Mag, but not sure the keeper wasn't in the way and if he'd have known Mag was there. Third one he does brilliantly to be in the position in the first place, maybe could have opened the angle a bit by cutting onto his right but I think he'd have been tackled, otherwise the angle was just very tight and he had to hit it hard to get it past the keeper, he's inches from finding the inside of the post and bagging the winner.
Perhaps the difference between him and Mag can be seen in the second chance KAG gets. Magennis is on his heals somewhat as the ball gets played through and is slow to react and get into position to receive a cross while KAG is on the move anticipating the pass. Think he has some goal scoring instincts, needs to develop some more composure at first team level, but I think it'll come. Hopefully we see some more of him through the middle in the coming games.

Well done to all the boys, they all gave it everything. I will never agree with not pressuring the opposition higher up the field. We defended fantastically and this time got away with it but we were lucky at times.
Their defense is shaky and instead of stopping their build up we gave them too much respect and kept waiting for them round the box (that formation again).2 -
Robinson should have got them in at 5am and we would have had three points.5

It's pitch black at 7 am at the moment.Alex Wright said:7am training session paid dividends
We had an evening match at Wigan last night.
Perhaps that is the key to success from now on - playing in the dark?

Cheers for the highlights link, looked pretty even with chances. Only one I felt KAG could have done better with was the first half volley. Lovely playback from Jacko0

Proper classic Charlton performance that, just after KM leaves as well
Gritty, organised and fantastic togetherness
Where did that come from via Sarr simply outstanding
And if KAG can work on his composure then there's more to come from him, the lad gave his all
Prob our best result of the season especially with the lineup we stuck out
JJ influential as always6 -
Yes he has to go across the keeper from there. If he had we would have gone in 1.0 up at the break.AFKABartram said:Cheers for the highlights link, looked pretty even with chances. Only one I felt KAG could have done better with was the first half volley. Lovely playback from Jacko

I’ve been rather critical of KAG in the last couple of months. I didn’t think he was good enough but last night he showed that, if played as a striker - what he was successful in the U23s doing, he has a lot to offer.
I do think that it is easier to chase down loose balls in a game that we are defending in than it is to score in a game we are really trying to win but he didn’t look, at all, out of place. Could have had a hat-trick and I have no complaints that none of them went in. On another day he would have scored. Great performance from him.

KAG worked incredibly hard last night. He had zero support whenever he received the ball and made both of those chances himself.3

Great result bonus of keeping a clean sheet for once as well. Hopefully we can build on it with 2 winnable home games coming up0
-
Great to see the boys fighting with a bit of team spirit.
I do hope Robbo stays with the new owners, he seems good at getting them fired up for the matches against the big boys. Need to show that against "lesser" opposition now!0 -
What makes the point a terrific point is three points on New Years day. Without that it loses all significance.0

We played average. They played average it ended up a bore draw but I'm really fine with that!0

So KM leaves and we do this. Imagine what could happen with Roly Rat finally goes. COYAs0

I’d forgotten that Nathan Byrne was playing for them, if things had worked out differently he would have been our RB last night instead!2

A lot of good posts already summing up the performance much more eloquently than I can do recovering in wigan's finest premier inn. So some random tidbits from the evening.
· German addicks, or just rogue Berlin fans were a pretty hilarious addition to our support. Smuggling alcohol and an entire pizza box worth of pies. They're zombie nation chant sadly never took off.
· The post match cooling van, is that a regular thing? Definitely a suprise to see half naked Josh, Marshy and others jump into the back of a transit whist trying to negotiate where the town centre is.
· Jacko is a hero. Gave everything on that pitch, and didn't clobber one of our party for taking an eternity to get his cameraphone ready.
· Genuine delight and thanks to the media team and photographer for getting a great picture of all of us belting out valley floyd road and using it to thank everyone that travelled. (I even know it's vfr because I'm usually cross armed for this).
· Wigan isn't half bad on a Friday. At one bar/club we weren't allowed 3 beers because that'd be under the fiver card limit. Turned out this was because the bar had a 3 for 1 policy, to which were greeted in a delightful northern accent "so, do you want 9 beers then". Never done drinking with rounds of 9, but I now really need a fry up!

I didn’t realise either. I guess that’s one of the things that you miss when you have no commentary.
Also, for anyone that was watching on iFollow, did you see out three substitutions. We didn’t realise any of them had happened until we noticed the new players on the pitch. We didn’t just miss one of them- we missed them all!1 -
It’s just that I live in the seven dwarfs’ house and everything else is very small. :-)MuttleyCAFC said:

Bugger me! We played last night? Honestly, I had no idea, expecting to be following the game at 10pm tonight!
That's twice I've done that this season!
As my old teachers used to say; "Must pay more attention!"2 -
How did we get on the last time you missed it? You might need to miss a few more.Bangkokaddick said:Bugger me! We played last night? Honestly, I had no idea, expecting to be following the game at 10pm tonight!

Proof for us that you don't have to dominate possession to gain a point and with a bit of luck might have nicked 3. I hope KR recognises that it's not possession that counts, but goals!1

Oh and one more thing, Mark Marshall needs to get back to the training ground quickly and practice corners!
6 hours up there, 3.5hours coming back, I love the M6 toll road.0 -

Bloody hell, your telly is bigger than my flat! You must have to sit in the next room to watch it.

When the Germans did their zombie chant we thought it was "hey Jude" and started singing that! Don't understand why fans like Wigan and Blackburn set up their singing crew next to the away fans. A drum and five people singing isn't intimidating.0

Was a fantastically Meh performance.
Very happy with it.0 -
Always seems odd to me when the “noisy section” is in a side stand, rather than behind a goal!PemburyAddick said:When the Germans did their zombie chant we thought it was "hey Jude" and started singing that!
