  • I thought Paul Walsh went to Woolwich Poly.

[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]just been speaking eloquantly on SSN's about the failed England world cup bid (from a bar in blackheath not sure which one) and then he slipped in a quick line about how good Charltons community work in South Africa has been .... good man

I just saw that too. He always comes across very well - and love the fact that he takes every opportunity to big up Charlton.

Not bad for a lad from Lewisham.

I thought he grew up in a house at the bottom of Bostal Hill in Plumstead/Abbeywood?

Always admired him as a player. Went off him a bit about 12-13 years ago at a luncheon at Stamford Bridge.

During one of the speeches (can't remember who it was), the person next to me whispered something in my ear.

PE glowered across the table at us and said loudly and officiously: ''If you want to talk, go outside''. It was gratuitous and daft, because I could hardly hear what had been whispered in my ear, so nobody else could, and his admonition was made in a stentorian voice loud enough for the entire room to hear and actually forced the speaker to stop speaking for a second. I told him afterwards that he had been ridiculous and had made a fool of himself.

But in the light of his comments about CAFC reported at the top of this thread ( a year old, but I missed them at the time), I apologise, Paul. All is forgiven!

Maybe he did, but the font of all knowledge (Wikipedia) has him down as being born in Lewisham, so that'll do for me.

    So possibly our next Chairman.

    Discuss.
  • Ex-Charlton man... Cant really complain as he'll have our best interests at heart.

Might be inexperienced in that type of role but for me its the new owners doing something sensible and putting people in place who are aware of the situation here, rather than surrounding themselves with more of their own inept countrymen like what Roland did
  • i really hope so a friend of charlton is Paul

I had the honour of being in the boardroom, as part of the VIP season ticket packet, on the wonderful day in May that saw us pick up the trophy under CP. I plucked up the courage to speak to many of the great and the good that day, well CP, Varney, Slater, Karl Howman and CP. Paul was there but I never got to talk to him, funny how things turn out.

    Maybe he meant Chris Parkes.
  • Our boys played in same team.

Got on well with Paul for a couple of years and was a very nice fella.
  • He does seem a really good bloke, when I lived in Chislehurst I would often chat to him as he was around a lot at various functions or jogging and he had time for anybody, always keen to chat about Charlton.

Well that was a disappointing end to that story.
I always disappoint in the end, you are lucky it was only after a short story.

Absolutely loves the club. Thoroughly nice guy
  • Wasn't he embroiled in some scandal a few years ago? I remember him not coming out too well from it.

He had a fall out with Rufus, it was Rufus that definitely ended up going down in people's esteem.

Poo, one of them should be KP, still starstruck after meeting Mr Peacock so much so that I cocked up his initials.

bumped into him at Chislehurst station a few years back, he was obviously in a hurry but stiil had time to sign an autograph and have a quick chat.

Weren't him and Paul Walsh sold to Luton at virtually the same time?

Gomez, Shelvey, Walsh and Elliott has been the 4 best teenagers we have had over the last 40 years. All 4 of them left while still in their teens. Let's hope their is mileage in this rumour about Paul Elliott. Bright feller.
