We currently have 20 first team players
15 of those have contracts expiring next summer.
Two, Solly and Clarke, will be returning from long term injuries
Vetokele has been on loan for two seasons.
We also have 20 players in the development squad.
We have only two keepers across the two squads.
There is little specialist cover for the full back positions especially right back although Zonsa and Dijksteel can both play there.1 -
Hmmm
I'd prescribe the following signings between now and August 31st: 2 x goal keepers, 1 x defender, 4 x midfielders, 1 x striker
I'm assuming Kashi might stay. I also think that as both Marshall and Clarke are over 30 it might be wise to replace them.
The new owners are thus looking at injecting £3-4m into the squad to get us up to the level of a guaranteed promotion. Let's hope it isn't like the Australian takeover of Homebase which collapsed this week.....4 -
Good work @Henry Irving
Bloody crazy, and a huge, huge job to do within two months. That includes the completion of the takeover, bringing in a SMT, appointing a permanent manager, signing players, assembling a squad, sorting out contracts etc.
Roland really has and will have left us in such a state.
Big job to do now and only 10 weeks to do it in.3 -
Worth noting the transfer window closes earlier this year.
Thursday 9th August at 5pm for permanent signings.
Football League clubs can sign players on loan up until 31st August.
You can also sign someone on loan and make it permanent when the January window opens.
Players can leave outside the window if they move to a league where their window is still open.

If they are fully fit, not a priority. I am sure if you look at teams promoted from this division over the past decade there will have been dozens of over-30s playing regularly.simonmatthews said:I also think that as both Marshall and Clarke are over 30 it might be wise to replace them.
There may be more to come from Marshall, while Clarke, when fit, is one of our better players and is also of a type we do not otherwise have.
In an ideal world, we would build a team in Div One that would do well in the Championship. In practice I think it is better to concentrate on getting promoted first, even if that means playing less sophisticated but more rugged and experienced players, then rebuild again once up.
I think what SCP did when he rebuilt, picking up quality players on frees or for minimal fees, is no longer possible. You might find two or three, but not seven or eight like he did.

Premier League have demanded that the Window close before the season starts yet the window remains open nearly a week after the Football League season starts so they can still cherry pick anyone if they want0 -
Didn't EFL clubs vote for this? Or am I misremembering?ForeverAddickted said:

Why would 1 game make a difference? Makes more sense to me than staying open a few games into the season.ForeverAddickted said:

Well it would if they snaffled up your one & only striker & left you bereft up front....Scoham said:

cue Oxford fans giving KR pelters in mid August1 -
I meant from the point of view of the Prem team. They won’t sign a player based on the first game of the season.0

No but be a similar case to when Leeds lost Chris Wood to Burnley at the end of AugustScoham said:I meant from the point of view of the Prem team. They won’t sign a player based on the first game of the season.
Yes it was Leeds' fault for leaving it late to accept a bid. Yet a Premier League side could be targeting a player all summer, that player could then throw a strop and engineer a move after the first game of the season... Its them up to the club to decide whether to keep an unhappy player or cash in on them - Half the time its the latter1 -

STILL 2 years on Naby Sarr's contract. I hate to imagine how much he will have cost us in total1

£6k pw = £300k pa plus the transfer fee minus any loan fees/subsidy on wages.killerandflash said:STILL 2 years on Naby Sarr's contract. I hate to imagine how much he will have cost us in total

I’d wager that the SMT, Manager etc etc are either already in place or will be within a couple of days of the takeover being confirmed.Sage said:Good work @Henry Irving

There might be people picked out but they won't be doing any work without being paid which begs the question of who'd be doing the paying?LargeAddick said:

If we can reach the play offs with R D owning the club I am sure under the Australians we will do better even with a late start4

Ha, ha, ha, unbelievable Jeff, as I said on another thread about RD 'A fool and his money........' and he binned off Yann for Peter Parsnip rather than pay the former a bit more, which is the version of events I prefer to believe.Covered_End_Lad said:

We were in the Championship at the time, Sarr was "hot property" and had played for Lyon and Lisbon.
£10k a week sounds like sort of salary he would expect, even without KM doing the negotiation.3 -
Irrespective of what salary he expected, we didn't have to agree to it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but even then it was a massive gamble for a 21 year old overseas player with no experience of the English game and he wasn't the only one millions have been blown on. Furthermore we had an experienced campaigner in Morrison more worthy of £10k per week, who was frozen out a year previously..........A fool and his money.killerandflash said:We were in the Championship at the time, Sarr was "hot property" and had played for Lyon and Lisbon.

Edit; I don't blame Sarr for getting the best deal he could and he's just had a reasonable season but we needed him to hit the ground running which he failed to do resulting in a season long loan away from the club.3 -
CAFC would love the figure to be 10k a week.
Like I said - the figure I was reliably told is terrifying and yes, the lady doing the buying for us got this very wrong.
Add the two already mentioned figures together and you are there !1 -
