Let’s just go out to win tonight. We have nobody to fear.

Don't think we should be worried about Japan or Colombia. Especially if James Rodriguez is still crocked.

Senegal were the surprise threat from that group in my opinion.

Fair play is such a crap way to decide a group. All Japan had to do in the last few minutes was not foul anyone & they knew they were through. Shots on target would be better, that would promote more attacking football

But then people would just spend the last 10 mins shooting from everywhere.

A bit harsh on Senegal but better to decide the group on fair play rather than drawing lots. As far as i'm concerned i want us to go out and try and win tonight although we should be good enough to beat Japan or Colombia.

I'd honestly not worry which half we end up in now - the last 16 is easier in the top half, the QF in the bottom half.

Semis much of us muchness, Spain or Croatia or France etc.

I cant belive how many changes japan made, really hope Poland win and Colombia and Senegal play out a draw now

Know the Japanese team well @paulie8290 ? I know I don't but after some googling for stats on paper i think they have set up well for this game tbh.
    This was a fail.

Glad Columbia beat Senegal in the end.

You look at that top half and England have played a blinder tonight. I can see Southgate getting into his hotel room, looking slightly disapointed, closing the door and punching the air with his good arm!

England kick off at 7pm on Tuesday evening against Colombia.

If they were to progress to the quarter final, that would kick off at 3pm on Saturday 7 July.

A semi final would kick off at 7pm on Wednesday 11 July.

Third place play off and the final are played on the following Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

I was thinking he'll be giving double wanker signs.

Let's look ahead past the round of 16. We are preparing for Switzerland and Belgium are preparing for Brazil! To be fair to Belgium, they have a chance but Brazil will be favourites. We will be much stronger favourites! This could be the game that opened up the World Cup for us! As the great Jimmy Greaves once said - actually he said it quite a lot - Football is a funny old game!

All this talk of Brazil is premature. They aren't in the quarter finals yet. Mexico could easily beat them.

It's time for England to OVER achieve...and stop always underachieving.

It's usually around this stage of the tournament that we "hit the wall".

We stop believing in ourselves. We don't get a 2nd wind.

It's like...oh that's it, we are shit just accept it.

Hopefully we really push on and it won't happen this time. Bring on Columbia!!

My general manager got up at 2am to watch England v Belgium (expecting an exciting game) and he was apparently very disappointed
I've watched most of the games so far, I'm gonn be a zombie soon.

Senegal were the best team in the group and failed to qualify. They were unlucky and you have to feel for them a bit!

You clearly didn't see Sweden v Mexico then.

Firstly, Belgium can beat Brazil, and I hope they do. But why we want to avoid Brazil is they are a very pragmatic side that is actually far more negative than people think they are. They are full of players with ability, but they are defensive minded and always make sure they have numbers behind the ball. It isn't easy to break them down at all!

What they offer is they can break quickly. most of the teams in this tournament lack the ability/quality to put 4 or 5 good passes together - Brazil don't! pass- pass- pass- goal! That is what makes them so dangerous and a team to avoid. After getting walloped by the Germans in the last tournament they have adapted their game. They don't look as exciting but they are merging European solidity and caution with their traditional flair!

They were the iceberg we were heading to and England teams of the past would have crashed into them in the quarters without a doubt! Captain Southgate however, has swerved around it!

Interesting from the BBC website is the fact that had we played at Rostov we'd have potentially been playing in 40 Degree heat

Know its not something that should be used as an excuse yet seeing that Southgate and Holland travelled to Russia for the Confederations Cup last year, this is something that I can see the Management team being aware of and have tried (succeed) to avoid

Of course you are right. Why jump off the cliff when there are stairs leading to the beach?

    Interesting thought about momentum

Only Brazil (2002 | 1970) and France (1998) have won the World Cup having won all their games

The result last night certainly, on paper, makes the route to the semi-final easier. But on reflection I think I would rather have played Brazil (probably) in the quarter-final than Spain (likely) in the semi-final.

Thats why im not ruling Argentina out even though they had a shitty start and they looked vunerable etc.

They already have the painful defeat feeling...its out the way ....and they are now on the rise.

They might just produce their best football at exactly the right time. Doubt they will actually win the WC but not ruling them out.

An example....Nethrlands won all 3 of their group games in 2014...got knocked out in the last 16 and have been shit ever since.

Portugal won the Euros and didnt win a single group game.

Its better to get at least 6 points though....obviously. As long as you get out of the group....I think that is mostly all what matters.

As one of the pundits (Dixon?) said, the idea that losing ruins our momentum is slightly bogus, as the main players weren't on the pitch. Kane, Trippier, Henderson etc have 2 wins out of 2, they'll still be buzzing.
