Club cutback on wheelchair spaces at cup games

Not sure what CASDA suggest but last season the East Stand disabled area was opened although the stand itself was closed.valleynick66 said:What is the alternate solution referred to out of interest?
That does mean that there need to be various stewards (one for the gate, one for the stand plus a specialist disability supervisor) and the fans like to have a refreshment trolley which isn't straightforward as everything else in the stand is closed.
The quadrants aren't seen as an option as they need stewards and a lift engineer.
It comes down to money, as ever with the club at present. They might lose money as relatively few wheelchair users (like fans in general) will attend minor cup games or early FA Cup games but the minimum stewarding requirements, for legal and safety reasons, and so costs, remain the same.
But as that the regime have thrown away any remaining good will and senior management can only see £££££ I don't know where we go from here.4 -
Is there an account I can add some funds to? I can't make the dates in question but would like to contribute nonetheless.4

As in a permanent change to the spaces in front of the west stand ? I didn’t know if it was just perhaps to pay for the necessary stewarding on this occasion. Good luck. Hope it’s succesful.stonemuse said:
CADSA are planning to pay for a few covered wheelchair spaces provided they can raise sufficient funding.valleynick66 said:What is the alternate solution referred to out of interest?

The answer is fundraising as they are doing.Henry Irving said:

I should add that this will possibly require a dugout so as not to restrict sight lines of those seated in the stand.stonemuse said:

It's weird, during Saturday's game I was thinking to myself "at least this club still seems to do access for disabled supporters well" (that's my impression from being to matches and watching them anyway). A couple days later and here we are. Awful.3

Hope the EFL are made aware.6

Just checking on how we could handle this with the rest of the CADSA Committee.stonemuse said:

In the meantime, we could consider sending a Charlton Life team to the quiz night in November if any of you are interested.0 -
I’ve just sent an e mail to Disability Rights UK informing them of this despicable action by the club. I hope they publicise it widely.12

I hope that, if a solution is found, it doesn't include a single penny being paid to the club. It would be great if this could be solved without any payment to RD and without him being able to gain any credit.
It's an absolute disgrace.6 -
I don't understand how this isn't illegal under the equalities act.3

I absolutely agree - and even if not illegal it is most certainly immoral.Wheresmeticket? said:I don't understand how this isn't illegal under the equalities act.
I think ROT may have just found an item for their next leaflet, to follow on from the non-payment of staff bonuses. Mind you, they are spoilt for choice at the moment. I wonder how Rubbershoes will spin this one?3 -

Be interested to know the demand for wheelchair spaces at the Checkatrade nonsense.
It’s worth noting that the cost of opening an existing covered area for cup matches is shared between Charlton, the visiting club and the pool, assuming revenue exceeds costs. That would mean Charlton only pay 45 per cent of the cost. On that basis the saving might be £200? Not really worth the PR hit.3 -
Don’t care if this affects 200 or 2 people it’s utterly despicable. We used to be the Club that people looked up to for various reasons not limited to but including issues regarding disabilities but now we are a disgrace.7

Yes, so does that not amount to discrimination in terms of access to equivalent facilities? I mean is it reasonable to decline to offer the option of covered space if that is on offer to those who are not wheelchair users?Henry Irving said:

A statement will be issued by CADSA which should clarify some of the issues.
However, the content needs to be viewed by Committee members before it is authorised as a true representation of the situation.
Hopefully I can get this to you tomorrow.5 -

The club has been Fucking over its fans en masse for years. Why are people surprised by this?
It's shitty, of course it is, but it's just par for the course I'm afraid.
This is what the club is right now. But still people accept it.....

The 'like' was nailed on once I saw the use of "opprobrium ".StigThundercock said:roly really does demonstrate a winning combination of sociopathy and business idiocy
there's no guarantee of more than 2 home cup games, even including the pointless competition; attendances will be miniscule, so how anyone can quantify a "saving" is baffling. With the prospect of saving no money at all he picks on a disadvantaged group. It's as though he actively seeks opprobrium and hate. Is that masochism, munchausen's syndrome or wickedness?
All the best to CADSA in circumventing this latest transgression.0 -
Are there any details of the quiz night? I could be up for that.0
