Watched on I follow on my I pad on my sunbed in Vilamoura
My wife has accused me of being a total embarrassment as I literally went loopy in front of some bemused people by the hotel pool for the winner
    Well played lads

Your wife may not understand but we do.
I would say it's more like "we appreciate that you're mad but then so are we." ;)

I must admit, it looked like Fosu got up quickly in anger at the kick and caught his head, intent is hard to prove, but we can never be sure and no way we can appeal. I always tell my son that if you are punched or kicked on the football pitch, stay down and make a meal of it - that is the way you punish the player who has done it. That is the part Italian in me, but Fosu needs to learn that as it won't be the only time a player with his talent is kicked!
  • Looks like two moves from Fosu, to me. One to get up and get in Kightly's face, another to head butt him. I think Kightly makes the most of it though. All happens very quickly though and the camera angle is not exactly conducive to a conclusive version of events though.

Not sure there are grounds anyway, but unless someone comes forward with a great bit of camera phone footage, I don't think there is any chance of a successful appeal. Fosu didn't exactly argue with his red card either. Their keeper made more of a fuss about his despite laying a clear right hook on Lapslie, who took it well, btw, considering he must've been giving up at least three weight divisions on the keeper.
  • Imagine the reaction on here if Robinson said what Powell said about the sending offs!!!

Glad we came back there as a draw would have started to look like relegation form. We've still not properly beaten a team though. Both our wins have been squeaked 2-1 wins with late winners, and we can't keep surviving by the seat our our collective red pants. Still, that end to the game was hilarious and I can only hope we were trying 35 yarders just to see if the left back in goal knew what he was doing. Good to see Igor back but I would have liked him on a bit earlier.

My worry is, that an underperfoming club could have their attention drawn to Bowyer and be tempted by the fact that they wouldn't have to pay compensation.
    Wouldn't they?

Bowyer's under contract to the club.

The point is, that compensation usually linked to the perceived value or investment the club has made in the manager. As a temporary appointment on a short term, any compensation would be minimal or Bowyer could simply refuse any extension and leave. I think that's our single biggest current risk.
  • If Powell has genuinely seen the incident and thinks their keeper shouldn't have been sent off, then he's fucking deluded.
  • What a result !

The rest of September looks winnable

Yeah but when you consider the amount that Powell has done for the club compared to Robinson...

Sorry, their goalkeeper physically punches George and is lucky he’s not on a gbh charge! If Powell tries to back that up like the ‘gent’ he’s supposed to be then we are deluded in calling him SCP

    Great 3 points nevertheless!

Powell is now the manager of Southend, I would expect him to stick up for his players, even to partially excuse the inexcusable as do most managers ..
Powell's days at CAFC are long gone but in no way will anything he says or does, bar slagging off our club for no good reason, diminish what he did for us as player and manager. He is a man who deserves my and our collective respect and he should continue to do so
    This absolutely.

Powell is the Southend manager, and said what you might expect an opposition manager to say. Nothing to see here! Talking of managers, Bowyer is impressing me a lot.

Wasn't at the game and didn't watch on iFollow so can't really have an opinion on anything.

It is great that Fosu came on and made an impact, when he is back from this ban, I really hope that he and us can kick on and get the results that we need, same applies to Vetokele, the more he builds up his fitness.

I have seen and heard many people say we aren't strong enough up front to compete this season, but I really disagree. We have Taylor who is an upgrade to Magennis, we have Vetokele back which we do know what he can do, we have a confident Grant who has came on so much from last season alone, Ajose might not be everyone's cup of tea as such but he does work hard and he is a poacher, and we also have Fosu who has a years experience of this league now and is going to be improving all the time. That is much better than this time last season where we had Magennis and Dodoo as our striking options, okay we had Holmes but overall, we are much better now.

Having looked back at the highlights, I don't think Karlan was offside and instead he was level when the ball was played for the goal that was disallowed. In the end it didn't matter. Once we begin to get players back fit, new players building a relationship with one another, we will be very competitive in this division and that is great credit to Bowyer, Jackson, and Gallen.

I am away this week meaning my next game I can see is at home to Plymouth, by which we will have Fosu back, Reeves, Aribo, and everyone else who was involved today, so long as all goes to plan. I very much look forward to coming back from holiday to another 3 points and the beginning of us surging up the league.

Well done to all who went and made great noise. We all know why that won't happen in the same way at The Valley until some old bastard goes, but if we can make the away following the same as yesterday, the same as Portsmouth away last season, it can only spur these players on; encouraging them, supporting them and almost forcing the 3 points to come home with us.

I hope all the miserable gits on here are actually reading this thread. before the match there was so much I'm not going... blah blah... shit football... blah blah... shit ground...blah blah.... moan moan. Well let's get this right at 5pm there was not a better place in the world to be; we were there, Charlton were the greatest team in the world with the greatest fans in the world.
Let's keep the moaning to the right place. Great club. But still "we want Roland out" to get back to where we belong

    This 100%
  • Not condoning Fosu’s aggression but if you find yourself on the floor and someone takes a gratuitous kick at you which is exactly what happened it’s kind of understandable for him to react.

Yes he deserved his red card but I really hope there is some really good footage of what happened better than I’ve seen because I don’t think a three match ban is adequate for either of the two Southend players. Both amounted to common assault.

I completely agree. In my opinion, and that of a referee which I am, I do not think a 3 match ban serves the correct punishment for what happened yesterday. Kightly clearly and deliberately maliciously kicked Fosu when he was on the floor, it's disgusting. I am not saying that what Fosu did was right, not in the slightest, but you can understand a reaction when a fellow professional has kicked out when you have been fouled and on the ground. If Fosu's red card equals is a 3 match ban for what he did, Kightly should be receiving at least a 5 match ban. That will eventually get players to behave and not do such things.
  • Great day out -Great atmosphere and great result
I thought Beilek looks Quality - but would agree he wants too much time on the Ball sometimes.
Fosu showed what an asset he will be when he is back.
Not included yesterday Reeves,Marshall,Aribo and Ward
This team can only get better -40 games to play for.

Not sure Bow's the right one to lecture Fosu on remaining calm and not reacting on the pitch. Leave it to Jacko, Lee.
  • If Fosu threw a head butt then it's an automatic red. Otherwise, it it had pushed Kightly it might have been a second yellow. This video is the best I've seen

Fosu definitely does move his head, with intent or not is less clear but I don't see an appeal being successful. That keeper is a total dicksplash though.

Dear lord. Can only agree with @Sage.and @ShootersHillGuru. If Fosu gets 3 matches, those two gotta get 5. I wonder what Chris Powell is going to do about his keeper. I mean WTF?

  • What the hell is the guy in the crowd with the anorak think he’s doing forcing his way thru the seats/Cafc fans, perhaps he’s a first aider????Not!

While on the subject of red cards, Steve Evans and his assistant both got one yesterday, couldn't have happened to a nicer couple.
  • To be honest having looked at the available footage I can’t see anything changing in relation to the sending offs. It really isn’t clear enough for a completely subjective view. It’s a pity it happened tucked away in the corner because if the camera angles could be better I’m sure the two Southend reds would justify 5 match bans.
  • The keeper was by far the worst offender, as he had no involvement in the incident at all. Indeed he sprinted over to take part, and immediately started throwing punches which is bizarre

Both Southend sending offs were justified. A couple more were lucky not to go

Fosu didn't do anything. Merely moving your head isn't sending off offence.

It is if the direction you move it is intentionally towards someone else’s head. Ffs.

I get sticking up for your players but actually a bit surprised with Powell, there really is no defending them particularly the keeper his reaction was ridiculous. I would have expected him to say all 3 deserved to go. Maybe the Pratley tackle pissed him off, who really couldn’t have been shocked if he had got a red.
