    Variety Events

So not the normal 15 reds, Technically the shootout is a VE but as its now a ranking tournament it goes with that.

If you want 6 reds added then i will next year
  • My thoughts exactly, snooker shooutout is included as its ranking. Although 6 Reds is a different format still non-ranking so could have been included.

Never heard of Variety events, but know of the others named. Up to you mate really but if its a snooker tourney and including non ranking, good to have it all :)

  • Only just noticed I hadnt done the end of season rankings my apologies

New players on tour and how they got there
    Kacper Filipiak-EBSA European Snooker Champion
Jackson Page-EBSA European Under 21 Champion
    Steve Mifsud-Oceania Championship Winner
    Igor Figueiredo-Pan American Championship Winner
    Chang Bingyu-CBSA China Tour
    Bai Langning-CBSA China Tour
    Brandon Sargeant-Challenge Tour
    David Grace-Challenge Tour
Xu Si-Q School Event 1 Winner
David Lilley-Q School Event 1 Winner
Jamie O'Neil-Q School Event 1 Winner
Soheil Vahedi-Q School Event 1 Winner

So thats 115 players confirmed for next season, still to come are:

    4 players from Q School Event 2
    4 players from Q School Event 3
    4 players from Q School Event 4
    ABSF African Snooker Champion
  • Will do updates from Q School 2, 3 and 4
  • Soheil Vahedi and Xu Si were on the tour last year so I wont do a write up about those, but the other 2 who have qualified from Q School 1 I will

    David Lilley

David is a 43 year old from England, He is a pro player for the 1st time now, he has made 32 career centuries and his highest break is a 136 in last years Q School Event 2.

David had some sucess as an amateur player in the mid to late 90s winning the following:
    1995-EBSA European Snooker Championship
    1997-English Amateur Championship
    1999-English Amateur Championship
    2004-English Amateur Championship

He then left the game for a few years and came back in 2016 and entered Q School, he never qualified but due to finishing 17th on the order of merit and with a number of players not playing David was able to enter 2016 Indian Open, where he beat Tian Pengfei, Mike Dunn, Mark Williams and Rob Milkins before losing to Shaun Murphy in the Quarter Finals.

He entered Q School again in 2018 and finished 1st in the order of merit(he was the best player not to qualify) which meant he would be able to enter in a few events during the 18/19 season, he got to the Scottish Open 3rd Round but other than that he never got past the 2nd round.

He did however come close to earning a tour card by finishing 4th on the Challenge tour list and also losing 5-4 in the EBSA European Snooker Championship final to Kacper Filipiak.

So coming close on a few occassion I am sure David is delighted to now finally be a pro snooker player for 2019/2020

    Jamie O'Neil

Jamie is a 32 year old from Wellingborough in England.

Jamie has been a pro player before 2007/2008, 2010/2011, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014, his highest ranking was 80th in 2011, his highest break is a 113 also in 2011.

His best ranking event finish was 3rd round in the China Open.

Jamie has won 2 Amateur titles
    2003-European under 19 snooker championships
    2006-English Open
  • Cough, i believe there area few more on the tour next season following Q school 2.

Over to you @paulie8290 you do it best
  • Haha sorry meant to update this yesterday but was busy, in the harvester in Dartford right now so quickly the 4 players to qualify via Q School 2 are

    Chen Zifan
    Fraser Patrick
    Louis Heathcote
    Riley Parsons

Chen Zifan was on the tour last year so no write up needed, the other 3 will do the writeup for when I get home later

I know bud, knew you would do a good job so didn't want to put results.
The last one was a rank outsider and a bit of value, someone i follow on twitter had him to go through at 250/1 + 33/1 any event, Louis Hathcote rings a bell but not quite sure why maybe tipped for future or been involved? I shall eagerly await your write up, although wont be home until Sunday so doubt ill see until then  :)
  • I love this thread.  I consider myself a snooker fan but @paulie8290 your knowledge is phenomenal.

    Keep up the good work
  • Fraser Patrick

Fraser is a 33 year old from Scotland, he was a pro in 2007/2008 and from 2013 until he lost his place in 2017.

Despite being a pro for 5 years he has only made 10 centuries and has a high break of 139.

He has never got past the 3rd round of an event.

    Louis Heathcote

Louis is 21 and from Leicester he has had 4 centuries and a high break of 104.

Not much else to say about Louis he has lost in the 1st round of a couple of events, The Paul Hunter Classic in 17 and Gibraltar Open in 18.

He has played on the Challenge tour but again not gonna very far in any event he has entered.

    Riley Parsons

Riley is 19 and from England he has never made a century

Nothing else to say about Riley, as he has never entered anything before this year

He entered Q School 1 losing in the 2nd round, he entered Q School 2 and qualified beating former pros like Ursenbacher and Peter Linea on the way

  • Great work @paulie8290 great to learn more about a sport I like to watch but wouldn't claim to have an extensive knowledge of.

One of the slowest players on tour last year Rory 1st turned pro in 1991, he was on and off the tour untill 2001 when he turned pro again and remained on the tour until this year, he finished 71st so just missed out in the top 64

He lost in the 3rd round in Q School 1
He lost in the 4th round in Q School 2
He lost in the 1st round of Q School 3

23rd in the Q School order of merit so no chance of getting in via that route either, he is 48 now so will be interesting if he enters Q School next year or if he enters the Challenge tour this season.

I doubt he will go onto the seniors tour due to the shot clock they have
  • Ross Muir and Sean O'Sullivan also lost early in Q School 3 and like McLeod are to far down the order of merit to earn a place that way, so another 2 ex pros who will have to settle for Challenge Tour
  • Q School 3 has been completed

The 4 qualifiers from that are:

    Alex Borg

Alex is 50 tomorrow and from Malta, Alex has been pro a few times before and last dropped of the tour at the end of the 17/18 season

Alex has a career high ranking off 80th and has a total of 15 century breaks with a high break of 135

Despite being on the tour for a number of years 15 in total on and off, he has never got past the 3rd round of a ranking event

    Andy Hicks

Andy is 45 and from Devon, Andy was a pro from 1991 until he dropped off the tour in 2013.

Andy has a career high ranking of 17th which he achieved in the 95/96 season.

Andy has 152 career centuries and achieved a 147 in the 2012 UK Championships

Andy has never reached a ranking final but has made 6 semi finals including losing in the 1995 World Championship semis to Nigel Bond.

    Barry Pinches

Barry is a 48 year old from Norwich, Barrt was on the tour from 1989 until 1997 then 1998 until 2016,

Barry has a career high ranking of 18 which he achieved in 2005/2006.

Barry has made 146 Career centuries including making a 147 in the 2000 Welsh Open Qualifiers

Barry has never got past a quarter final in a ranking even, however he did beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final of a PTC event in 2010 and earlier this year beat Aaron Canavan in the Scottish Masters Qualifying event, then in the main event he beat Ken Doherty and Stephen Hendry before losing to Joe Johnson in the final.

    Alexander Ursanbacher

Alexander was on the tour last season so no need to go into details
  • So now we have finished Q School
The 4 players top of the order of merit not to have won an event also get tour cards, they are the following

Billy Joe Castle and Peter Lines who were both on the tour last season so no update required

    Si Jiahui

Si is 16 years old, turning 17 next month, he is from China and is a pro for the 1st time, he has made 5 centuries and has a high break of 131

    Lei Peifan

Lei is also 16 but unlike Si, Lei only turned 16 4 days ago, he is also from China and is a 1st time Pro, Lei has never made a century

  • So thats 127 out of the 128 players

The 128th will be the winner of the African Champion which is held in Tunisia in July
  • Cheers Paulie
  • That is mad, 3 of 4 players later than mid 40s. Then a youngster , great to see 2 16 year olds qualify via the order of merit. Hope they can make a couple of 2nd rounds and do well, it wont be easy at that age.

    Thanks Paulio for the updates

  • So slight derail, Pool (Blackball rules) The next couple of weeks there are tournaments in blackpool which are open to all levels, this week Thursday-Sunday 3 man comp, Amateur Series. Next Thursday - Sunday 4 man pro-am, 1 professional allowed.

We went to the 4 man last year and will again this year with 5 people ( 3 sets of 4 so we just rotate who misses out), the reason it might be of interest it gets streamed, I will post if I get on a streamed table, but also its something to watch if you enjoy a bit of pool.

Youtube/Facebook beard productions, if you want to follow the events its golden8ball.co.uk. Would be interesting if someone else from here was going.

Last year was the first time I went and was a quality few days, around world cup so me and my mates basically just all day drinking and playing the comp, got through to the gold cup (Gold or Bronze after group stage) we then played a team with 1 IPA pro and his brother who went on to make final of singles (out of 512) we lost 7-3 first 2 we didn't touch the table after losing the lag. Went into Silver and bowed out 7-5 respectively, but its more about the craiq.

sorry I know not snooker related but just thought if anyone was bothered or going more likely they would be in here.
