If so, can you recommend a hotel please? Close to shopping etc would be good... Short trip (3 or 4 days)

I've been a few times mate , its excellent

The best hotels to stay in are on the Jumeirah beach , which is a 15/20 minute cab ride away from the city centre .

Most of the hotels are quality but the pick for me would be either The Royal Mirage , Jumeirah Beach or the Madinat . Or if you want completely over the top , go for the Burj Al Arab

If you want to stay in the city centre you've got the pick of the Hilton/Sheraton/Meridien ones

www.airline-network.co.uk usually have some good deals on

    Good luck
  • Meds - Mum and Dad went 2 years ago and stayed at the Al Qasr part of the Madinat Jumeirah Complex right next to the Burj. They totally loved it.

I'm going there with them in July (Booked it on Monday) 10 days of pure luxury, cannot wait!!!

    Mx
  • quite fancy going there myself at some stage, but what sort of place is it ?

Is there actually much to do there ?
  • There is loads to do - right next to the hotel is the water park (Well one of them anyway) then about 5 mins away is the new Mall that has the sky slope in it. You do have to get taxi's to the other shopping areas and souks (Markets) You can also go on the 4x4 Jeep Surfing (Over the Sand Dunes), they now do Sand Buggies taht you drive yourself over the dunes. I could keep going on and on. The hotel that we staying at has it's own private beach which is in the shadow (figure of speech!!) of the Burj.
  • Oh one thing I would say is to stay up the Burj end of the beach as there is quite a bit of building work going on in the city.

My Sister worked out there for three years so I've been a couple of times, fantastic place.

I can recommend the Hilton Jumeirah Beach. Very goods hotel and has a sports bar in the basement. Watched the last seasons boxing day game against Arsenal in there.

Stuff to do, the snow dome is amazing and I can also recommend the dune safari if you get the chance.

MariaCAFC, have you been in the Burj?

No I haven't but my parents have for afternoon tea (Again something else to recommend - bit pricey but well worth the money about £60 each but you certainly don't need dinner after the amount of sandwiches and cakes that they serve up!!) and took photo's - To be honest it's a bit to in your face for my liking - the rooms are probably out of this word - but the decor is a bit to much colour and there is too much gold everywhere. That's why my parents preferred the Al Qasr as the decor there is much more Arabic.
  • I've been to the Burg , had dinner there . Very exspensive

Its an all suite hotel and as Maria says there is gold everywhere but its something to be seen . We had a drink in the top bar as well that you can see jutting out of the hotel , its pretty amazing

You cant get in there though to just go for a drink or have a butchers , you have to have a dinner ( or tea ! ) reservation

We did the same for my parents and got them the afternoon tea thing as a christmas present. I've only been in the enterence area. Very, very bling!

One of the first things I'd do if my lottery numbers come up is first clas flight to Dubai, helecopter from the airport to the Burj, landing on the helipad, and then stay there for a week just to see what it's like.

Yeah landing on the helipad would be the way to arrive .

The way I tried getting in first time was on a golf cart in my England shorts ...
  • that sand dune thing made me feel sick. didnt really enjoy it cos i was at the back of the 4 x 4 but definitely worth doing.
Didnt step inside the burj - had a good night with all old mates at the madinat.

I stayed out in the Springs with friends but used to buy a day pass to use the facilities at the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi. good poolside bar etc.

Had one of the best meals ever in my life in the floating boat restaurant at the front of that hotel.
  • So Medders / AFKA - has Dubai been sold to you????

We have just opened an office out there - and the amount of internal applications that were put in for the PA roll out there was amazing. I thought about it (thinking of starting a fresh) but after much consideration I didn't take it any further. Bit of a wimp like that - didn't like the fact of being out there on my own.

  • i would live out there in a minute if it werent for family commitments. Similar to the expat lifestyle i had in Hong Kong and so much work out there its ridiculous. The whole place is a building site.

    I'd say so! Sounds great.

I'm looking at going there on a stopover to the Maldives. Would 3/4 nights be long enough in Dubai?
  • i've got lots of friends out there. haven't managed to make it out there yet myself though. a few are teachers, and one is a photo editor on a newspaper. so have got plenty of places to stay.

trying to get a free trip with work but hasn't happened yet!
  • I would live out there as well,i could clean up with all the sites that are out there in my game, maybe one day

The reason my parents wanted to take me back as they did 10 days 2 years ago and missed a lot of stuff. But agree with Shag it really depends on what you want out of it.

None of the big boys, it's a smallish 6 partner firm based on Farringdon Road.
  • We have at least 8 of the top 10 firms as our clients..
client base totals around 60-70 firms nationwide.. (we have offices in leeds & Manc as well)
all in 2 & half years which aint bad going
