You know how the old saying goes - when you find yourself in a hole... you dig the shit out of that thing - there’s sure to be a way out down there somewhere.
  • Sorry got his age wrong. 30 not 34.
    Thirty next month I believe.
Still has a few years in him yet.
I'd like to think you're right.
    But elsewhere.

Random Twitter rumour that he’s turned down £18k a week.
He then goes on to say/retweet someone who said Brentford are offering/offered him 30,000 a week, which is all you need to know about that rumour.

A lot of lifers seem to be very confrontational today, must be be pre back to work blues building up and or Cup match nerves for fear of another reversal 😲.
I see it as honest exchanges you'd find down a boozer.

Crack on fellas, it's all differences of opinion, no more than that.

Oh my god. LYLE Taylor? I've just realised I was talking about someone else entirely.

No Lyle is definitely going to save our season. 100 per cent and anyone who questions that is an absolute c***.

    Glad we got that clarified.

This is an intervention. We love you and we're worried about you. Put your phone down and read a book/go for a walk/ watch a film.

Ignoring the £18k figure, how much do people think LT is worth a week on a 2 year deal?

My answer would be dependant on what our other options were.
If no one as good can be signed for less, then he's possibly worth £18K pw.
If I could sign Toney for £10K pw, then I'd say he's not worth it (for example).
I heard we'd offered him £14k pw a few months back.

12-15k a week would be a fairly decent Salary for a striker at this level.

In comparison Karlan Grant was on 28k at Huddersfield when in Prem - not sure if lowered once relegation.

It isn't as simple as that though. To get Toney on £10k per week you also have to factor in how much we would have to pay to buy him.
Taylor may also want a signing fee in addition to whatever wages are agreed. You have to look at the whole picture and also consider what sell-on value each player will have down the line.
As things stand we know that Taylor is good enough to play in the Championship and fits the club and team. I would do everything, within reason, to get him to stay.

Highly unlikely Bees are offering £25k PW unless they made a killing on stadium move.  Benham is only estimated net worth as £200m, so those wages seem out of proportion. Their budget is already bigger than ours on crowds of 11k.

Brentford are big on stats and him passing the ball then standing on the touchline watching a cross will not be a big seller.

I've seen no suggestion anywhere that Brentford are offering Taylor £25k PW.
It was rumoured they offered £20K PW in the summer.

They were willing to pay 4mil in the summer though. Not unthinkable to suggest they will pay an extra 5k a week if they can get him for much less then their original bid.
  • Josh Cullen has done nothing above league one apart from a couple of decent months with us ,
    He’s injury prone as well
League One next year for him , wibble wibble wibble

Give Taylor the 25k a week on a 2 year deal, 2.6 mill for a proven scorer/good player at this level is nothing in 2020.

Taylor IMO has done enough for a decent 3 year deal, he’s a proven goal scorer and doesn’t rely on his pace (get a quick one alongside him). He must be an absolute nightmare to mark.

also don’t underestimate his effect on the club/fans he’s had since being here, he’s a real talisman...losing him would be akin to Yann going

would be a huge mistake to let him go IMO. I hope he signs a long term deal along with the management team...now that would be a real statement of intent
Agreed. As much as people are getting excited with Toney as a replacement, what Taylor brings to the club as well as the team is something we should keep hold of.

Not that simple unfortunately. Would ruin our whole wage structure

We have the wage structure of a league 1 club, it might need to be ruined
  • But remember this a wage structure implemented by Roland.

if we are ever going to compete in this division and try and reach the premiership we will have to start signing better players and pay better wages.
if we persist with the current wage structure we will always be fighting relegation.JoshAddick said:
