isn't the reality that unless we change our wage structure to the bonkers top level of the championship and above (and I'm not saying we should) we are going to continually get this issue? Players who prove their worth at this level have a queue of 6 or 7 clubs ready to pick them up on much better deals
The other thing that occurs to me is the possible reason behind the ESI purchase. Perhaps they saw the value in the quality of our backroom staff and the solid infrastructure and want to carry on getting the amazing value our team are delivering, with a bit of tweaking Bowyer could be flying in this league, maybe that is the big gamble and if you think about it fairly low risk relative to splurging tens of millions and being caught in the same trap as so many other big spending clubs. It is puzzling though that the backroom team haven't been signed up, but as mentioned that may be Bowyer's insistence and there may still be a commitment there.
Hmm, just seen the SLP thing apparently the reverse is the case..
However the Southall interview suggests that it is or at least was Bowyer's insistence to get the transfer window done before sorting his own deal.
Maybe Bow's getting nervous now.
Or Bowyer realises he wont get players through the door till his own future is confirmed
Remember Murray saying a similar thing about Curbs when he was stalling on a deal and he was probably right.
I have seen Rangers mentioned loads on here but that would be a strange one for me. They have morelos who is an absolute goal machine 28 in 35 this year in all competitions. Lyle is nowhere near his level. I can't see much of a market for him at present.
Rumoured to be off to the prem
Whoever buys him will have to accept that they will be paying for him to spend some time in the stands - in 126 appearances he has been booked 39 times and sent off on 7 other occasions.
Against the only other decent side in Scotland, Celtic, he has failed to score a single goal in 11 appearances but has been booked on 4 occasions and sent off twice.
But who was he playing for when up against Celtic? Teams who can barely get out of their own half. No wonder he got frustrated and picked up yellow and red cards.
All the games were for Rangers who have won 16, drawn 2 and lost just once this season, beat Celtic at Celtic Park last week and will go top if they win their game in hand. They've also scored 53 goals in those 19 matches so clearly do cross the half way line on occasions.
Not sure why he should get quite so "frustrated" given that scenario?

Sorry, my apologies. I thought that you were talking about Lyle Taylor's record against Celtic!!
Brentford looking elsewhere for a striker, Taylor could still sign a contract with us, especially if Bowyer's contract is sorted out on the weekend, all we need now is new players and would be complete, especially with JF-C also on the bench Saturday
Lyle has a bit of a dilemma. If he doesn’t sign a new contract and IF no acceptable offer comes in for him, he will be stuck at Charlton for the remainder of the season on current wages. That’s a big hit for him to take with no certainty as to what offers he may receive when he is a free agent.
MS "Lyle is not for sale, even if he doesn’t sign a new deal he’s here until the end of the season."
boom
Cue Taylor sending cryptic messages on twitter and then being injured until May.
You seen his instagram post from 2mins ago?
Rather odd... just a little moonwalking dog? about as cryptic as it can get.
I try and avoid Social Media If I can (it causes more harm than good) particularly Taylor - he plays a game, people get their knickers in a twist and it results in the brain dead section of our fans we have sending him abuse. He doesn’t do himself any favours though to be fair - he is my favourite player by a long way, but fuck me, he does like to be the centre of attention!
Even when I had a photo taken with him he made it all about him. I mean surely I was the legend in that picture?
I love Lyle. I’m sure most of us do. I know he's a bit of a diva at times but he’s articulate, his hearts in the right place and he’s an extremely deep thinker. For what ever reason he’s had a weird career, almost like he’s a bit of a hobo and clearly only fulfilled his potential with us. I hope all parties can be grown up and find a middle ground.

"Hey Lyle, I have a combined total of 40k lol's and laughs on Charlton Life"
I was discussing the logistics of costs etc with a friend today. MS has been quite clever with his words. No his not for sale, unless something mouthwatering comes in, I take that as a bid of 5m all more, for a player with 6 months on his deal, however I'd hope that number was closer to 10m as losing lyle could be the difference between staying up or going down, anything less does not make any kind of sense.
Then What would it cost us to find another Lyle Taylor? Bare in mind the 13m price tag Peterborough have put on Toney, so 20k even 25k a week on a 2 year extension works out to between £2m and 2.6m over 2 years, throw in a 200k sign on fee, cover ourselves with a relegation release clause should things got tits up and we go down of say 4m, were covered and still walk away with a profit in a worse case scenario.
Matt if you need me I'm here all night 😁#BusinessMadeEasy
Lyle Taylor for 10 years was the Quintessential Journeyman footballer. From cleaning the boots of Neil Harris at 16 to arriving at Wimbledon at 26. Lyle had Played for 14 Clubs, 7 on loan by the time he arrived at Kingsmeadow. An unknown, who had a great scoring record at Falkirk ! Suddenly he was back in London and 131 games and 44 goals later he chose Cafc over Sunderland.
In 18 months Lyle Taylor and his personality plus his many goals and assists and his trademark walk to the penalty spot have made him famous in the EFL. A hero to Cafc fans, yet he may walk slowly away in the summer, unless a couple of million is paid in the January window ? Bowyer is desperate for Lyle to stay, that's why Lee fired the broadside about getting his own Contract sorted by Saturday as he knows that gives a positive message to Lyle. What is paramount is Taylor is a Charlton player till the Summer to make sure that the ESI "model" isn't blow out the water within 5 months.
Walk away at 30 if you have itchy feet and you can get 10k more a week with our blessing in the Summer but not now. Matt Southall must stick to his guns and be strong. Cafc immediate future depends on retaining our status in the Championship. We have a much better chance with Lyle than without him.

...and then we ended up with Dowie.

Its a bloody big risk hearing what MS has just said
MS said if big money offer comes in he'll have to look at it.
10 mins later said he's not going anywhere??

Honestly not sure what to make of it at all.
The fact it was posted straight after the press conference tells me its related, but maybe I'm getting the wrong end of the stick.
"Really Dicky? Can I have your autograph?"
