We should be looking at players from clubs like Sheff Utd and Derby who need mins by going out on loan.
Clubs like Sheff Utd and Derby? Hardly similar in the current situations.

Apparently Power is known to his mates as Horse.
    He's not Pony, then?

A reminder that we currently have TWO loan spaces spare now, and they have been free for a week. Even if the permanent deals are dragging on, surely at least one can be fixed up by lunchtime?
Yes and those don't need to wait until the end of the window.

I do wonder... even though we did a great job with Conor Gallagher, Chelsea recalling him and sending him out to another Championship club was not a good look for us. I can see Premiership clubs wondering what happened there and thinking twice about loaning us their youngster, as wrong as that would be.
Could work the other way. They could see that we developed him so far ahead of schedule that he was ready to take the next step in a loan 6 months earlier than they'd anticipated, which means we could end up having teams looking at us as a great option for a 6 month loan for their player to be ready for progressing in the summer.

I mean they have some good players that are not playing much and would get minutes at our club.
  • I think the frustration is because MS has come in with promises about deals and 'marquee signings', and teased the twittersphere by implying that stuff is going to happen soon.

He should have come in and played transfer activity down rather than being a hype man, but that's down to his inexperience. Everyone knows Jan is tough, it takes time to get deals done, and when you're in our position and run of form then persuading players that they won't be in league one next year can be difficult.

There will be a flurry of activity next week and luckily we only have 1 game between now and then. Yes we wanted things to happen sooner, but it's a players and agents market in January.

I don't know if another Championship club looks like 'the next step'. To outside eyes it looks like they no longer trusted us to develop their player, or something else was wrong. Not saying that's the truth of the matter but the optics weren't good.
  • Aren’t Chelsea quite a different model to most Premier League teams though ? How many players do Chelsea have out on loan at any one time 50 ? They use the loan system to make money. Hoover up dozens of youngsters and develop them to a point where they can go out on loan and then get sold without any real intention of them ever getting into Chelsea’s first team squad. Jay Dasilva is a prime example. No idea why they wanted to shift Gallagher but it will only be because that is what they think helps him the most. The fact it’s questionable is immaterial. I still think that Charlton are seen as a good club to send PL youngsters. I still believe we need to build closer ties to the London PL clubs in order to get loans from them. That is a huge pool of talent and is easier for the parent club to maintain contact for the player.

Not claiming to be ITK here but my friend who texted me saying Bowyer did not know about RD statement in the summer and was going to stay has just texted me and said we have bid around 1m for the Bristol Rovers striker Clarke-Harris

Can't wait for the pelters if it does not come off.

Unfortunately they want 2 million for him.

There have been some Clarke Harris rumours and another player from them but nothing from a proper source. I have no doubt we've make offers for several players, most of which won't come off. Saw the Bristol Rovers chairman wanted 2m for him, not that it means they'll only settle for that sum.

Deals have been offered and players agents and clubs are looking around to see if other better offers come in. We probably have deals we could do now, but should we?

Or should wait to see if targets higher up the list come in? If the Liverpool deal happens are we not interested in the Rangers lad - or is it the other way round? Or both? Could we go back to Blackpool or are we onto someone better?

    Well put, @Redrobo.

A lot of people seem to be forgetting Bowyer's way of thinking in the transfer window.

Obviously he's concerned to get players in ...... but he always tries to get the players he wants; the players that can improve the team.
If necessary he'll hang on to the last day of the window to get the player he wants, rather than just another average squad player to make up numbers.

Sure, it can backfire ..... as the window was closing last January, he lost out to the players he wanted - and in desperation, Josh Parker was signed, just because he needed a dependable player with the right attitude, to make up the squad numbers.

On the other hand, the previous summer window, he determinedly hung on all through it for Cullen and Bielik, signing them right towards the end of the window. Those 2 players proved key to our promotion success last season.

I've faith that Bowyer's intention will be to sign the best players he can get for his way of setting up the team.
And the targets will have already been identified.

Bowyer and Gallen might well be holding off signing their 2nd choices, while the 1st choices may still be available.

I think the silly tattoos come as a standard feature these days. Maddison is covered in them, including a couple on his face. They will look great when he is in his 70’s.

Maybe the Sun journo got confused by the double barrelled name, hence the link to their captain as well.

Jordan Rhodes in advanced talks with Wigan.

Incredibly frustrating, would be a good signing for us
He wants to stay up north

Not a rumour but just seen that Lee Gregory is available from Stoke. Scored goals for Millwall but struggled a bit at Stoke.

Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up back at the sewage farm.

No complaints with JCH if he's fit and ready. Better than what's available and he has room to improve. Rotherham fans think we are mental if we sign him  for the championship cause they think he is quite frankly, lazy, rubbish and not ready for this level, Gasheads think he's well out of form. Sometimes though players just fit different clubs better. He does have a powerful shot on him and he's a big strong lad

I’ll throw in his FM profile, can someone find the obligatory YouTube video?

Clarke-Harris would be a good signing IMO, a handful, strong, fairly quick and notches occasionally, defenders would come off battered against us if our forwards were Taylor, Bonne and him.

As an aside I was amazed to find out that Stuart Bingham - bald, middle aged snooker player - is also covered in tattoos. What's the world coming to!

I would just add that whoever we bring in has to be ready to hit the ground running.
Our situation is becoming critical and come February there will be no time for "needs time to settle"; "needs to get used to tactics/formation/team-mates" or "needs to get up to speed with our training levels" or similar shit.

    Agree.

But his past record tells us Bowyer won't want to settle for 2nd best, if there's still a chance of getting the 1st choice.
