I didn't think David Mooney was as bad as some made out... *runs for cover*
Had some quality strikers - Akpo Sodje, Paul Benson, Pawel Abbott....

    Don't forget Tresor Kandol...

    Graham Stuart.

Played over 150 games for us during our Premier League years and could get on the scoresheet from time to time as well.

But he never really seems to get mentioned with the attention going to the more glamorous names from that era - Parker, Jensen, Euell, Kiely etc.

We'd have stayed up had we signed him earlier in the season!!

You don't play 179 Premiership games if you are c***, even if it is only midtable boring premiership football,  despite the viewpoint of our booboys at the time.

I am of course, like others above me, referring to Radostin Kishishev.

Some may have realised that actually he wasn't bad when, well past his peak, he p***** all over the much vaunted Semedo and Racon when Brighton stuffed us 4-0 at The Valley.

Great player for us and gave his all for the shirt every time.
Agree. Very underrated player, humble lad and will always be remembered for this

Who is that in the dugout in the suit? Peacock?
    No......but I don’t know who it is?
    Think it's the away dugout.

    Could be Ferguson.

Stuart to Bartlett = Goal of the Season.

Players who do all the dirty work like Kish are often underrated - you only appreciate their work when they're not playing and see the difference.
Kish was more than a workhorse, he was a skilful passer of the ball

He could play a delightful through ball, seeing opportunities a good second or two before the likes of Lisbinho, but because the intended target was so slow seeing the chance it looked like a wasted ball from Kish hence why he used to get so much grief.

I loved the interview with him on Charlton Live a year or two back; either @LouisMend or @KillersBeard caught up with him when he was visiting The Valley on a matchday and he sounded on excellent form, still very passionate about football and Charlton and the bleeper had to be employed once or twice too!
Interview is somewhere in this pod from back in 2016 https://aca.st/2e831a
    2016?!

Bugger me, where has the time gone?!

Frazer Richardson? I still have a vivid memory of him bombing on from right back and setting up one of those first half goals in the second leg of our play-off against Swindon. Bit gutted he left for Southampton after one season.

Deon Burton? Can't actually remember whether he was well rated or not but his hold up play was superb.
Always rated Burton - as you say his hold up play was excellent.
In my  view, that aspect of his game was second only to Andy Hunt.

I remember Richo had a serious injury shortly after joining Saints - these days it's the other way round, they get crocked after joining us!

The season after Richo we had some kid from our youth team nailing down the right back spot. Whatever happened to that 5'3" (sic) lad ... ?

    Another vote for Kish.

Every time someone around me was giving him stick (often) I would make sure they knew of my displeasure!

Kishishev for sure in my lifetime. Graham Stuart was a good player too, a solid reliable player who was the epithomy of Curbs management style.

Since we got relegated from the Prem I would say someone like Bradley Pritchard. Used to get pelters around me but he had a great 18 months or so at a good level.

Poor old Paul Hayes. Lovely skillful player but had the misfortune of being around at the same time as our best and most beloved player since the Premier League days. Terrible luck

Josh Cullen, he is already rated, but not enough, best player we’ve got comfortably for me.

Was Buyens underrated? I've never heard anyone slagging him off and most are appreciative of what he brought to the team.

The most underrated player for me was Diawara - thought he was a real quality player who many of our fans never rated. One of the best tacklers I've seen.
I can only assume you are Iain Dowie
  • Simon Royce.   He never really got the chance to shine at Charlton but was an outstanding keeper.
  • There's a bit of support for Bryan Hughes here, but I found him the most frustrating of players. Made himself look busy on the pitch but achieved so little and seemed reluctant to make a tackle.  Just my opinion ... maybe I'll run for cover too.
  • Along with Kish. I would put Chris Perry  very underrated
  • Lawrie Madden, bit of a joke figure for us following a horrendous penalty miss into the Jimmy Seed stand. Went on to have a long, successful career with the Wendies in the top flight.
Stevie Brown, very underrated as a centre half I felt, Curbs seemed to prefer Carl Tyler for some reason and would often drop Brown even following consecutive MOM performances, which I thought was very unjust.

Cory Gibbs, for some reason the crowd never really took to him...……...

Or got to see him for that matter.

Although much heralded by us Charlton fan I thin Richard Rufus was underrated in terms of his England credentials had he come through ranks at an Arsenal or Man United he would have had 50 plus England caps.

Also an Honorable mention for Chris Perry who I thought was outstanding in his time with us.
