I've said all along that we are "playing" poker/in an auction, where the stakes/prices are higher and time shorter (as it's January).

The "game" ends when the window closes.

If our target clubs/players fold early in our favour we do the deal.

We might fold early, pay more than we want and do a deal.

If none of the parties fold before deadline day it goes to the wire.

Most parties go to deadline day.

I can't be certain we'll win the game.

The most likely outcome is we're just going to have to wait and see how this plays out.

We must have funds, EFL wouldn't have approved the takeover.

It is more about whether we are willing to pay the asking prices.

    Ah still no news.
Tbh i think we will manage barnsley with our current squad coming back to fitness, so should be ok for any business to go down to the wire

Pogba's CV looks pretty bland and basic.
If his CV said Barca, Bayern and Juve do you think he'd be training with us?
His total transfer fees amount to £450k and has never excelled at any of his mediocre clubs over career.
Gallen and Bowyer won’t sign him then if they don’t think he’s good enough.
It's almost like they'll assess him whilst he trains with us... Or something.

When a club is doing well it is easy to show restraint and wisdom, but when things aren't going too smoothly and a manager is under some pressure from his directors and supporters, he can be harassed into buying impetuously and not so wisely as usual. Clubs who have gone on spending sprees to avoid relegation have seldom been saved by panic-buying.

Think loans will be the crucial business for us this week , unless we can get someone like Maddison over the line.
I'm not sure much will be done before Thurs/Fri to be honest
When Cafc leave things to the last couple of days we are normally the losers. The"Parkers "as the last day of the window is known by.
Still think Birmingham may be Favourite for Maddison but assuming our bid is still on the table and Gallen and Bowyer still believe that Marcus can buckle down and replicate his best form, you would like to think that MM would want to work with Lee and prove his Championship mettle. Otherwise hoping our 5 injury prone players (work it out ) aren't going to break down again seems a risky strategy for a snappy ambitious owner and  Chairman.
So this is not just a 10.000 metre race where nothing happens until the last lap (pace maker Green obviously) but the home straight where you get bumped and shoved.
Not a good idea in my book unless you have the legs(chequebook) to beat the multitude in the desperate lung to the line.

Richard Smallwood anyone? Blackburn CM who they’ll apparently let go for a nominal fee. We’ve been named as one of the clubs interested.

and then in the summer he is surplus to requirements? SG said any signings have to improve us and be able to take us forward. No room for stop-gaps.

    Eh?

The aim at the moment is to stay up. If he helps us do that, then why wouldn't he be required as a squad player next year? He might even be a starter.

We need goalscoring options. Full stop. Bonne/CG/Leko scored and created.

Agreed, Field and Cullen are on loan and Pratley isn't getting any younger. Still doubts over the likes of Lapslie and Morgan. Leaves JFC as our only out and out CM (I realise he is out of contract too).

IF we signed someone like Smallwood, I doubt we would then go and have 6+ CMs better than him next year.

Take over the last few months of his contract, make him earn a new one.

Recovering from a hamstring injury picked up against Derby - Bowyer mentioned the other week he was still a few weeks behind so dont think we'll see him till Nottingham Forest or Blackburn at the earliest

I know he is injured, but on the face of it, it's quite a straight forward injury.  Replacing him in the squad isn't a priority is it?
  • I guess another Striker through the door will see Leko replaced (as it was mentioned the other day that Bowyer doesnt see Green as that replacement) so means we've only currently got Hemed and Taylor available, get Idah through the door and we've got Leko replaced - Get Parrott through the door and we can afford to send Davison out on loan

Not sure 3 forwards on loan is ideal.

They'll be the most expensive and most sought after players this month

I think it would be better to get to the summer and then sign a couple of Strikers on a perm deal

My prediction for the start of next Season,
(ESI 8th month plan) we will have a stronger 24 man squad but a weaker 11 to start in August.
No Gallagher, Cullen, Taylor, Field, and  I'm not convinced that Bonne will still be here if the 200k we paid Orient  becomes a 3 million offer and Bonne wages don't go up pro rata to his ability to score goals in the Championship ( his agent has the hump with Cafc already, despite Bonne saying he wanted to stay on !)

More and more younger players, plus some experience coming in from elsewhere.

We have to aim for 11th THIS season so if we fall short we will still be safe.
Aiming for 21st can't be the starting position from February 1st.

Watt...could be an interesting short term solution.

Pretty sure him and Lyle Taylor have had beef on twitter. Maybe not ideal.

Surely it's no more than football banter!

I am not recommending a one in, one out, that's for sure!

Agreed -I think Parrott and Idah though will be an either/or

God no, don't want him anywhere near this squad.
