he's played for st.etienne for the best part of his career, a well established french club (who would be the equivalent of most championship and some prem clubs i would have thought) and played in European competition so i'm not sure why people think his cv is unimpressive - its whether he has the know how and grit for the championship battle he;s gonna be in that concerns me more but 100% faith in bowyer and gallen.
I feel bad for a player who's best part of his career is 66 matches across six seasons. Mind you he spent a season on loan at Club Sportif Sedan Ardennes, "who?" I hear you all say. Best described as the French equivalent of Coggeshall Town.
I'm not sure how reliable Wikipedia is in terms of games played I seem to remember in the past some of the signings from abroad didn't seem to have played many games ever but in reality had played a lot more than shown on Wikipedia. I know there's some examples out there I just can't think of any off the top of my head while at work.
The wiki stats at the side only count league apps for some reason. Pogba had 99 apps in total at St. Étienne.

Yet for whatever reason the young Tooting & Mitcham striker who’s presumably still on trial has been named.

Nothing new in Cawleys interview. Literally "someone will probably make an offer for Lyle before the end of the window" well duh. and "ESI have said they will listen to offers" well yeah they said that weeks ago. They have also said he is our player till the end of the season unless a silly offer comes in.
I think if Taylor goes it may be because the offer amount bridges the gap between him and us buying Toney.

I’ve been confident we’d get quite a few over the line all window.

I’ll admit even I’m starting to get a bit nervous now. Need at least 3 by Friday and not a rumour in sight.

Currently plenty of rumours for a Charlton Athletic January transfer window.

    Parrett
    Idah
    Pogba
    Maddison
    Smallwood
    The two from Bristol Rovers

I think we are all expecting there to be interest and offers in for Taylor, we’d be foolish to think otherwise.

At this late stage, and with Bowyer saying he will speak to Taylor this week, I would be genuinely surprised and saddened if he were to leave. Finding an adequate replacement at this late stage would be almost impossible.

The cost of relegation would be at least £5m. If we got any offer less than that, we would be stupid to sell. Anymore and it might be worth it. But still probably not. The lowest I'd take would be £7m. Is he worth that to anyone else? Probably not.

This isn't to say we would 100% get relegated if we sold him - it's just a higher possibility if Lyle goes.

Personally cant see it happening - with HE turning up on saturday the last thing they will want is something to rock the boat.
If ESI accept an offer for Taylor they must have a really good replacement lined up. I was thinking more all good news this week and a couple in through the door to unveil in front of a full house at the Barnsley game.

Running on pure faith at the minute, few rumours about but nothing too exciting let’s be honest, the best player linked with coming or going is Lyle Taylor.

I’ve seen many saying “judge ESI come 1st feb”, if it’s looking grim them I assume the same will be saying “judge ESI come May 3rd”.  Massive week in our history coming up, relegation would be catastrophic, simple as that.

After having Roland for 6 years, I’ve put all my faith in owner eggs in the esi basket. If January is disappointing, I’ll say judge in may. If we are disappointed in may, I’ll say judge in August. I’m going to be right eventually.....I hope

Still not worrying. Just because there’s few rumours doesn’t mean things aren’t happening and/or going to happen.

They will happen, and very quickly, as is normal for the January window.

If we get to Thursday and still nothing, then I’ll start to worry.
  • Curious question... How can you judge the owners come May?

Surely you can only really judge them at the end of a transfer window

Everything else is down to Lee Bowyer and the players he fields

If they let Taylor go without replacing him adequately, we are back to the Duchatelet days of selling Kermorgant and replacing him with utter dross

I'm just saying if, used to this happening at Charlton now, common theme to lose our best player in January
This already happened... he was playing for Swansea at the weekend.

Gallagher was a key player and needs to be replaced but I think loosing Taylor, cullern, locker or Phillips would be a bigger blow.

I said I would judge them on the 31.12 20.
Looks like you may have already judged them if you are having a dig at those who said 1st February.
  • Confident things will happen. Would be both astonishing and worrying if after ESI busting a gut to take ownership in order to work the transfer window and given our league position and recent injuries. I seriously doubt we are all going to be jumping for joy in Saturday morning but I think Bowyer will get reinforcements.

I can see no realistic prospect of finding a replacement of Lyle Taylor’s calibre in this window. Apart from the fee and wages (which would far exceed any transfer fee received and whatever we’re paying Lyle), being 20th in the Championship is unlikely to enhance our attraction as a club.

I can’t see anyone matching Brentford’s reported offer of £4 million in the summer and losing Taylor at this stage may well see us back in League 1, given the fine margins in this league.

In addition to the financial cost of relegation (at least £5-6million per season), the loss of goodwill towards ESI would be huge. Logic, therefore, suggests that Taylor will stay and Matt Southall will hopefully be as good as his word.

It's only us on CL that need rumours.

Gallen, Bowyer & Southall will have been busy, alright.
And if they're trying to bring deals over the line, they'd prefer the press not to know until the signing is done - or risk losing the player to another club.

  • ESI bought the club earlier than they could purchase lock stock and barrel so they could be in before the transfer window! Southalls own words! Yes we are all aware of January inflated costs but If they don’t strengthen now then how does that bode going forward!  Would be amazed if we don’t have at least a couple in before Friday!

31.12.20?  So you will hold judgement if we go down then??
  • The January transfer window is notorious for newspaper and website overhype.

Most commentators really don’t know any more than the most of us.

They just make up stories as ‘clickbait’.

They link players with clubs with little or no inside knowledge, in the hope of getting us to read their drivel.

You know it’s silly season when we start getting linked with Tony Watt.

It’s clear that everybody on the Charlton management team understands the importance of getting players in this week.

But only the right players at the right price.

IMO that’s sensible and the correct way to proceed.

In a very competitive market, they are hardly likely to tell one and all who they are after, through fear of losing the player or risk entering a bidding war.

Just be a bit patient boys and girls, Uncle Lee, Steve and Matt are doing their best to get us all some nice presents.

No one wants to go down, but catastrophic?
We've been down before you know!

I'd describe relegation as horrendous, annoying or a pain in the poop-loop. I'll reserve catastophic for the following; folding, being forced to leave the Valley and ground share with Millwall or being sold back to Roland.

Depends if the price paid to Roly is dependent on staying up.  No knowledge, but I think Roly had a clause like this in his deal with the spivs

This is a football forum mate, no need to play tomato tomata.  Okay I’ll keep it simple, going down would be a kick in c^nt/sh1te/heart wrenching/catastrophic/horrendous, choose whatever word you like all means the same in this context.

But surely that's Nicholas Cage, not the bleedin' Norwegian Blue (likes kipping on his back).

But right now it's not all doom & gloom. We're in a period where new signings have been promised, key players returning from injury, and a lot of football still to be played this season.

So why keep focussing on the worst case scenario, mate? ...... You make Golfie sound cheerful.
