34 games last season in the Dutch top flight. Can’t be too bad.

Hopefully Bowyer can do the same with him as with Gallagher.
Failed to make an impact at QPR. Can’t help but think the bottom of the barrel is being scraped.

Why? Bowyer and Gallen would give the go ahead for a signing if they didn't think the player could make an impact with us. Yann failed at Leicester, Morrison failed at Wednesday, BWP failed at Southampton, Hamer failed at Reading, Taylor failed at Sheff Utd, Scunthorpe, Bournemouth you name it, Purrington failed at Rotherham. Most players fail somewhere when a move doesn't work out for them, it doesn't mean they can't succeed elsewhere. Especially if they're going to be coached by a former England international midfielder who has a storied history of developing young players into quality footballers. Cheer up, you've never even seen him play. It'll be ok.
  • Smith’s a product of the West Brom youth system, so likely Field and Leko put in a good word.

So we had £2.5 million plus a fair wage sat there for Maddison?

Something seriously off if we don't get at least one decent permanent through the door.

Smith: "It’s a wonderful football club with a lot of history. I just can’t wait to get going. I’ve come here to try and get an opportunity to play and prove to everyone that I can do it at this level."

The sarcasm and negativity on this thread pisses me right off.

Clearly Smith was signed earlier in the day, daylight and in full training gear.
That has just blown my mind!!... Cant believe your the only one to notice this!!

Careful. @s@"SoundAsa£" doesn’t like that sort of talk. 😱

'never heard of him he's untested at this level'

'journey man, he has never been at a club for a long time'

    'he's old, and past it'

'he's young and does not have the experience'

'he didn't do well at his last club he must be rubbish'

What you hear everytime we sign a player. How many times have those people been proven wrong, yet continue to make assumptions?

Better player than people probably think right now. They like him at City.

This is still a decent move. Box to box midfielder.
Who likes him at City?  Not saying your wrong, obviously they think he has something or they wouldnt of made him a pro.

But you say that with such confidence I wondered what it was based on.
Had a very successful loan spell at Twente and so they rewarded him with a long term contract. Was worried about losing him last year and he going abroad and having another Sancho or Diaz effect (not saying he’s at that level).

He is a player that Pep has deliberately wanted to go out and play at this level. Have seen from a few places in the past, especially when he was capped by Wales, that they like him at City.

I'm happy with that midfield pool til the end of the season.
No Doughty? He ain't gone has he?

Full 🚂ing gear with the shorts. Probably has the hummel socks on too.

    Would have made medical easier.
  • Feels a bit weird that we have had so many loan players who play in central midfield/defensive midfield (Cullen, Field and Smith with Kayal before them), the sort of position you'd have thought was relatively easy to fill with experienced pros (like Pratley)

Looking at the photos of him in his training gear they were obviously taken earlier but sure we'll find out soon enough if it was before midday

Not a chance did we bid that for Maddison, he was out of contract in 6 months and has now gone to Hull for just a 'loan fee'.

Probably doesnt matter... We've got enough players to fill the matchday squad tomorrow (provided no incidents these last few days)

The picture of Smith on the website looks like it was taken quite a lot earlier today
He time travelled back a few hours so they could take a better photo

  •  I would be surprised if Vdyra went to any club today. Burnley made a statement much earlier saying no more coming or goings.

I was thinking more of the midfield diamond, but yeah I guess he can cover those positions too.

Oh please, the usual obsession with other clubs youth player being better nonsense, he could not even get in QPR’s side! Another waste when Charlton should be doing something with their kids not Man City’s
Do come off it. No-one can sensibly argue that Charlton fail to give youngsters their shot in the first team.
That’s not what I’m saying - I’m referencing the general obsession on getting new signings and the only ones Charlton seem to look at are other people’s future profit. He’s already not done much at QPR yet now it’s ok to ignore the youth who have been thrown in the deep end these past weeks. With senior players retuning surely it’s now you keep the Charlton youngsters involved?
Youngsters from City are going to be a cut above our youngsters whether you accept that or not! Albie and the likes need to develop elsewhere and come back! Bowyer is obviously doing this for a reason!
Your still missing the point I could not give a hoot if they were, the point is he ain’t one of them and he does not belong to Charlton, so either way he’s a pointless signing who will essentially only Benefit City’s and his pockets. Your looking at bright shiny lights of city’s money and convincing yourself it must be better...
  • Just seen his made his debut for Wales before he'd even made a senior club appearance!

5 in a match day squad, not sure if there is an overall limit but know some clubs have had 6/7... Maybe 10?
