I reckon as part of the loans is a contractual obligation to have them in the 18. How else can Smith get in over Ostumer on Saturday. If not it's further rubbish from Bowyer.

I doubt Sunderland give a hoot about McGeady, isn't he out of contract in the summer anyway. Same for Birmingham and Davis. Strongly suspect the Clause is in Smith's contract and he is an absolutely wasted squad space0

Solly hasn't been a championship quality player for about 5 years now. It's really sad.
He has had some very good games in that time, but not a run of games where he was better than OK. When was the last time he was first choice after Xmas? Dijksteel, Konsa, that bloke from Wigan, Motta, Fanni, all ended up ahead of him.
No one likes "slagging him off" or doubts that he is "proper Charlton" but its a valid point that he isn't good enough and no amount of wishful thinking is going to change that.
I think it's harder for regular watchers to see it because he didn't go from great (which he was even by championship standards) to shit over night. If we had signed him in any of the last few seasons he would have got pelters.
At least Jackson, when he wasn't the player he was (and I would suggest even now) was a goal threat and that side of his game, added to his obvious leadership quality glossed over the very obvious negatives.
No one wants to shoot old yellow but not doing so only prolongs the inevitable and makes it more painful to watch.
I wish his last game for us had been the play off semi last season. Not because I dislike him but because his last kick would have been scoring in front of the covered.0 -

In any case, Smith and Oztumer don't play the same role - so IMO, not a question of "how can Smith get in over Oztumer".
More likely, a change of gameplan intended to counter a big Boro side, so Ozzy doesn't fit into that and rested - Bowyer likes to rotate, doesn't he? Or he's got a knock/bruising/tight hamstring, you name it and he wasn't risked?
After the Hudds game, Solly played at Derby, got a bit of a runround up there in a poor team performance. But played in the Cup game against West Brom in January.
He's not in the squad because Matthews better suits Bowyer's gameplan and is
playing well. And he's not on the bench because it's rare that Bowyer has more than one defender amongst the subs.0 -

I don’t think he would have gotten in the team ahead of Lapslie anyway.I am still surprised he announced he wouldn’t play as I don’t think he would have figured anyway barring an injury crisis. He could have left with his head held high.5

Equally sad that it has ended like this for Solly. Remember seeing him first as our best player in the F A Youth Cup defeat in 2009 to a very good Spurs side that had the likes of Andros Townsend, John Bostock, Jonathan Obika, Steven Caulker and Dean Parrett.
Still believe that it is a reflection of his long term injury situation and the fact is that he has only started 12 games this season - LB hasn't picked him in the League this year. Yes he was contracted to play 'til 30th June but to ask someone who has been sidelined for six months to rock up and give 100% given his history is a big ask. In his head, if we hadn't needed him before, when we played Dijksteel, Matthews and Oshilaja in front of him, why should he risk any chance of him getting one last career move now especially as I assume that we didn't offer him a contract?
Not saying it's right what he has done but do believe that there are mitigating circumstances. And would prefer to remember him who gave absolutely everything when he did play for us.5 -

It’s a real shame.
On that fateful Bad Friday when he got sent off, as he couldn't keep his hands by his side at the Den when we had a side to beat Millwall, will be my memory of Chris unfortunately. Going from 1-0 up to 2-1 defeat and walking down the old Kent Road after the mandatory 45 minutes to an hour being held back, getting soaked and feeling like Shite for the rest of that Easter weekend.
As my Analyst said to me recently, I need to move on and not keep bringing up shocking memories.

No it isn't, it's his job. It's what he's paid to do. Solly would have played one game in this period. I don't think anyone would have given him any grief for seeing out his contract and then leaving for a new one on 1st July given that he would be unlikely to get another one at Charlton. That would have been fine. All he had to do was turn up to training, run around a bit and then play one final game against Cardiff. He would have left a club hero who we fondly remembered as our captain during some good and some difficult periods. Instead he leaves as a bloke who couldn't be arsed when we needed him, in a squad so limited we had to change our formation because we don't have another specialist backup without him. Sad to see him leave, if it wasn't for his injuries and risk i am sure he would have been in the Premiership, we were lucky to have used even if sparsely. I remember when he first came in and he was keeping Jenkinson out who obviously went to Arsenal, whilst more athletic i still maintain Solly was the better player and had some very good years with us.
Any idea where he is going? would be a good signing for anyone League 1 level. If it wasn't for how good Matthews has done we would probably want to keep him. Good luck Solly for the rest of your career(unless you play charlton ofc)1 -

Look at Sam Field he was out injured for how long this season? He could have taken the easy way out and made up an excuse to stay at West Brom and not come back.
Even last night Field still continued to risk injury to play football it's what footballer's do! And he got injured because it's what happens with footballers.
Field, not even a Charlton player let's not forget, has shown more character and fight for the club than Solly over these remaining games. There's just no excuse, Solly will now be remembered for being a coward and it pains me to make these sort of comments about someone who should have been a club legend. Instead his legacy will forever be tarnished and he's only got himself to blame.

Equally, given the scenario that, in the final game of the season, we don't have anyone to play right back and Solly refuses to come back for that one last "hurrah" and we lose and go down and you don't think a single fan would give Solly grief for not playing? You might understand that he was out of contract and have right to refuse but I guarantee you that the minute someone finds out that he was asked and refused to play there would be more than one fan pointing the finger at him.
The fact is fans are fickle. If Solly was really that important to us then LB would have started him more than 12 times this season and given him at least a minute of football this year. And we would have offered him a contract. But he and we didn't.
Stop his wages by all means for breach of contract. But the fact is we don't want him any more than he now wants us. I even doubt that LB would have risked him against Cardiff given how little football he would have played. And we managed without him didn't we?3 -
