Now over £15 million. Absolutely staggering.
I've loved seeing him on the TV, not just for what he is doing but for what he has to say. What an inspiration to us all.
Well, he is getting on a bit.

Perhaps I should have said motoring. I reckon he must have been a flying machine in his younger days.

Not wishing to pee on the parade, but for all the fact that Captain Tom is obviously a lovely charming and decent man, are we not going a little over the top. Over the course of a week or so he has walked up and down a garden. This has been captured by the media, and instead of £1000 , Millions has been raised.

There are others out there who have toiled and given up their lives for years in supporting charities. No doubt their financial count will be no where near Toms. However, their personal sacrifice would have been massive and in many cases life changing. Are we shouting out for knighthoods and Dameship for them.

i think we are in a world where, people seem to want to reward media attention. Yes, it’s a great story and a fantastic sum of money has been raised. An yes I have contributed myself. But, a knighthood......
The honours system has all sorts of unpleasant implications, but few ordinary people get knighthoods for charity or other deserving causes. They get OBEs, CBEs MBEs.

Knighthoods are reserved for mainly arselickers.  Name me ten altruistic aristos. Richard Branson doesn't count.

This can often be so true.

If Tom had donated £20m to the Conservative Party, he'd be made Sir Tom Moore.

As he's initiated 'only' raising £20m for the people, I'm afraid that barely counts.
Best he can hope for is MBE, if he's lucky.

But he never started this for his own personal recognition; he did it because he wanted to help in someway. And he has, a terrific contribution.

    Well done Captain Tom
  • When you listen to Captain Moore and then to Trump, it really is going from the sublime to the ridiculous. Who needs Captain America when we've got Captain Tom.

He has also been made a member of the England cricket team. I wonder what number he will bat. Happy Birthday to a wonderful & inspirational man.

I've seen speculation that they're making money from the JustGiving donations but I can't see any proof of it. Seems like someone thinks the page organisers get the transaction fees which isn't true?

I think the Just Giving site takes a cut but not the individuals involved in the fund raising.

Well he's already made 100 not out, so surely he should be an opener?

When you make a donation via Just Giving, they advise that they do not charge the charity but that if you want to add small amount for Just Giving's expenses you can do that.

Over £26 000 so far, to be divided between 26 charities.
I hope this gets the same publicity in the national press that Captain Tom's effort did (although I won't hold my breath)
