Lyle is a fine player and I've really enjoyed watching him play. Roland should have signed him to a longer and more lucrative contract when he proved his worth to the team in our promotion year. But Roland has always been a bit of an asshole. Once a player gets into the last year of his contract then they are always likely to run their contract down, especially if you are as good as Taylor. I saw this coming, I'm sure most of us did. We 'hoped' he would re-sign for us but can't blame him for going to a bigger club with a great financial deal. Also can't really blame him for his current stance. In his position I'd probably do the same.2

But refusing to play now with us in our current position is poor form in my opinion.

Obviously I get why people are upset, but objectively, can you think of how more shambolically a football club could have possibly be ran than we have been in the 2 years Lyle Taylor signed to us for? I can't even really list everything that's happened off the top of my head it's been so absurd.
If you aren't a fan, why would you do anything more? That's awful for us fans and makes us the losers of it all, but Taylor has basically been central to any remote bit of hope we've had throughout this time, and deserves better than the absolute sh*tshow we currently are. Good luck to him.4 -

Football has showed itself to be farcical in its restart project. Premier league have started it with plucking a date out of the air to ensure TV revenue is received which has filtered down to the EFL. The main word used by any employees during the whole pandemic is "welfare" yet footballers due to higher salaries than the general public seem to be instructed to go and play and entertain. With 2nd waves in the UK still to hit, I am not surprised of any footballer refusing to play to protect future earnings or current health.0

That express term being the requirement to play if selected (and no other factors such as injury to affect that).They may well have had a word in his ear, but if that were the case you would expect all 'Bosman' cases to result in the player out of contract in the summer going walkabout in the last couple of months - and that doesn't happen.

He's really gone down in my estimations, although I was kind of expecting it. He knows what the fans are going through, he knows what the club has been through, and how much it meant to us to get promoted.
Yet he's not prepared to give us another few weeks, which could make the difference to where our very existence could be at stake.
I've been listening to the pod cast with the great, loyal, dedicated club man, Keith Peacock. What a contrast !
It's decisions like this from Lyle that is ruining my love of the game.

My love for the game died a long time ago. It's only my irrational love affair with Charlton Athletic that keeps any interest in football at all.
