Alex Gilbey - Re-signed for MK Dons (p37)

Think it's fairly clear now that he's not out of contract and we're paying a fee. Bizarre one, just hope we're not going to sign 2/3 decent players and then have absolutely no money to fill a squad and rely on the likes of Vennings to fill in.Callumcafc said:This doesn’t seem like the kind of tweet an out of contract player would post... feels like he expected to be back at MK next season.

Actually hope we dont under an embargo. Would mean a strong first XI and a piss poor squad.paulie8290 said:

Won't be anywhere near 1m. We haven't spent that kind've money since we bought Sarr. We only spent 900k on Nicky Ajose who was the leagues 2nd top scorer at the time.paulie8290 said:

Alex Gilbey is actually a very shrewd signing if it comes off. He reminds me a bit of Cairney at Fulham. Big and strong but also has great technique and decent vision.
Also looks like he isn't afraid to "mix-it" and isn't going to bottle-it in a 50/50 situation. Loves to dribble and also likes shooting too which is unheard of for Charlton players!
I see the comparisons to Stephens too. Very interesting if it happens
The other player who is similar that I would LOVE to see is Ben Whiteman of Donny Rovers. They would work well together

If we get these players or we don't and with others extending contracts its nice to be talking positives rather than the negatives which has dominated these last few months1

Between this and Conor Washington, we're turning into the Billy big bollocks of league 10

COVID will mean that some clubs may need money urgently and do anything they can to reduce wages.0

Honestly if we sign Alex Gibson I just can't see how we will be excluded from the league..
EFL will not approve it if that's the case surely.
What on earth is going on.0 -
If we were paying around 5k a week for Cullen and £5k for Field, that frees up £260k which can be spent on Gilbey’s fee and then obviously £5k on his wage.

I can’t help but think he looks like a more physically imposing version of Albie.

I still don't fully understand how we are allowed spend money if the takeover hasn't been approved. Unless it's money from within the club and not from ESI which seems unlikely
I would have thought any purchase of players would only be allowed if source of funding was approved by the EFL?0 -
What sort of non committal response is that? He's such a knob.chev said:1 -
Has our favourite Uncle Roly taken pity on us?
He knows he's royally shafted us ..... and now sees the opportunity to lend ESI the money needed to sign these players. At 50% interest pa.No flies on Uncle Roly.1 -
Then we can reform and 10 years later be in the same league as them!paulie8290 said:6 -
Wow it must be bad if no one's mentioned the height police....
From my interpretation we're allowed to replace players by the EFL. As players without contract can sign at any time, they don't come under an embargo as long as a club does not increase it's overall wage bill. Signing a player for a fee would be part of the transfer embargo: No I don't know absolutely EFL rules but can't remember clubs under transfer embargo doing this.

A big thanks to MK Dons for showing us the way.Todds_right_hook said:

What would we be called ...... Charlton Athletic Addicks?
Or CA Addicks, for short.
PS: As long as it's not Croydon Addicks. No, it's not funny.0 -
Well if we sign him it would seem something has happened we don't know about. Mind you we were going to sign Maddison whilst under an embargo making that impossible. Maybe we need to see it happen and assess from there. Looks a good signing though if we did do it.0

Not necessarily, they might let us sign players using the wages we’ve signed. Not convinced there going to let us pay a fee for a player mind.MuttleyCAFC said:Well if we sign him it would seem something has happened we don't know about.
