We got a mention on Only Connect this evening. We lost 6 5 to Queens Park Ramgers in the question.

Anybody hazard a guess as to why ?
They scored more goals than us  :)

  • Everton 3 Hull City 2 ?
...is an acceptable answer, as Victoria would say.

Ha, you're right. I saw the use of Hull City which they used on the show and falsely awarded the point. That's why Victoria hosts the show and not me.

    I want to say

    Hull City
    2-1
    MK Dons

But as its Queens Park Rangers the  surely it would be Milton Keynes Dons

Just can think of any other football league team with only 1 vowel

I was quite cross when the Q started as was expecting our 7-6. Turns out VCM is a QPR fan.
  • Bury with 1?

Question I have heard a couple of times on quiz shows. Charlton played in two FACup finals, what unusual event happened on both occasions? The witty answer is they scored, the correct answer is that the ball burst on both occasions.

Name any sports stadium designed by Archibald Leitch? The Valley (pointless answer)
Not surprised it was pointless, as Leitch had nothing to do with The Valley. He did design the Midland Road stand at Valley Parade though.
From the excellent "Engineering Archie" by Simon Inglis:-

"Before the opening of Wembley in 1923 it was common for new grounds to be touted as a potential home for the Cup Final. Stamford Bridge and Highbury, both Leitch grounds, were two such candidates. Another was The Valley, the cavernous home of Charlton Athletic, laid out in a disused chalk pit in 1919. When Charlton applied to join the League in 1921, Leitch was reported as saying that in his estimation The Valley would be capable of holding 150,000. There is no evidence that he did any designs for it, however. Humphreys were the contractors ...hence the similarity of the stand with that of Highbury's."

I have applied to go on Mastermind with Charlton Athletic as one of my three specialised subjects. Tough to get anywhere close to being selected to take part though.

Good move @meldrew66, except that it's already been done. If I remember rightly, Charlton was one of the first football clubs they did. I'd be surprised if there was a revisit very soon.

Alex Wright has done this a while back
  • And Derek Wooley if memory serves?

Alex Wright of this parish did well on Charlton, however the general knowledge questions he got were ridiculous. I doubt anybody would've got more than one.

.......possibly explains why I didn’t hear back from BBC then.
