Quite a lower turn out on this thread than usual, and the theme has turned
a bit negative, understandable after the shambles of last Wednesday.
What happens today will depend on Bow's ability to motivate and lift
the payers who are picked, and of course their willingness to listen and
show the bottle needed to get back winning ways, which is just what i
expect... close game but going for a 1-2 win, Akin with the winner

No, this is what people just aren't understanding. Bowyer hates playing two centre backs who use the same foot, next to each other. It upsets the balance. He will never play Pearce and Famewo together, he's had to play Gunter and Pratley out of desperation. Different injuries too and the biggest factor... Pearce pretty much missed pre-season and three months of competitive football with his problem - Famewo only missed a month so it doesnt overly surprise me that they're being more careful with JasonSamE7 said:

I think as it’s a while since people have seen Pearce we are forgetting how slow he is. Bows to go with Gunter and Fam I reckon today.

Given up trying to guess. If we are serious promotion candidates we should be winning at Shrewsbury. We also shouldn’t be losing to two bang average sides in Burton and MK. Heart says 1 - 2 to the addicks but the head hasn’t really got a scooby. All I do know is that promotion comes out of consistency. Looks to me that Charlton are anything but at the moment.0

Pearce last played football last season. Famewo play 7 or 8 games in a row recently so his base fitness is much higher. Yes it's not ideal playing a left footed CB on the right I agree, but is it worse than playing a RB or midfielder instead, that's the question? After all, nobody would have suggested playing Chris Solly at CB just because he's right footed!Sage said:

You wouldn’t ever have Solly at centre back purely because of his height. Just the same way as you wouldn’t have Maatsen at left centre back.0 -
That’s also because you would’ve had more right footed players in the game than left. You also find that left footed players can be very left footed and rarely use their right. Whereas, right footed players can be very comfortable with their left, more so than the other way around.Cafc43v3r said:

@killerandflash makes a valid point. I don't think we should deem all left footed CB's to be the same. Some are comfortable passing with their right foot. Some are comfortable holding their body position at a certain angle.
I think the point here is, we know it's not ideal, but does it really leave a L1 team at a great disadvantage playing 2 specialist CB's who like to hoof the ball with their left wand, rather than a CM and a RB in the same position.0 -
How would you feel about a 3-5-2 formation where the three centre backs were Gunter, Famewo, Pearce, flanked by Matthews and Maatsen? I agree with you about not putting either Pearce or Famewo on the right, but in the middle of a three think it might work.Sage said:

I agree, this is getting overblown. Obviously you want a CB to play on their stronger side, but it isn't that much of an upset to the team if they're not. Compared to, say, not having any specialist CBs at all.killerandflash said:

I was a right-footer who played left CB when needed. It really comes down to how strong your weak foot it, as that's what you're going to be clearing the ball with most of the game. Never felt any discomfort tackling on either side, you grow up playing football and people come at you down every side.1 -
