To be fair to Stevens and Robinson they both got corkers0
-
136-9
Klaassen out for 50 -
It's a mystery how our batting has declined so badly from last season0
-
138 all out and our last 9 wickets lost for exactly 500

Undoubtedly the averages of some players are severely distorted by one or two massive scores.Todds_right_hook said:I only look at scores and have not seen any play for a number of years but have come to the conclusion that leaning isn’t very good!!
he had one very big score last year but not much else
Sean Dickson, for example, has a lifetime average of 33.07 but if you take out his two highest scores of 207* and 318 this reduces to 28.77. In fact, those 525 runs represents almost 14% of his total runs in First Class cricket of 3,855 from 125 innings. Dickson was released, somewhat surprisingly in the view of some Members, by us early from his contract last season in order to join Durham and he is currently playing in their 2nd X1. So far for that side and their 1st X1 he has scored just 142 runs from 15 innings.
Cox and Leaning, of course, had that record stand last season. For a player so young, Cox's innings was exceptional but, taking out that 238*, his average reduces from 41.53 to 27.50. Equally, Leaning has scored a total of 642 runs from 27 innings for us of which 220* came in that match and without that one big score his average would reduce from 29.18 to 19.18.

A fair assessment of the first day and our performances to date from Matt Walker:
“We were very poor. It was not good enough in any aspect.
“To go from 88 for one to 138 all out is not good enough. It’s hard to put my finger on why, but we’ve had too many days like this already this season. It’s Day One and the positive is wickets can go quickly if you bowl in the right area.
“We’ve got to be better on day two if we want to win this game.
“Everyone is working hard, but we are just not getting it right on the pitch. I remember from being a player it’s difficult to get out of a bad spot.
“We have to get out of it quickly, but we won’t hit the panic button. We need to get more balls in the right areas.”

Even better that it's being done by my favourite country Surrey.

Cummins has been a bit of a damp squib as an overseas signing. I see Stevo has bowled 19 overs, while Cummins has bowled 51

Milnes with a 3rd wicket1
