Reasons to be optimistic for Sunday

Three big games on Sunday:
Charlton v Hull
Portsmouth v Accrington
Oxford v Burton
It’s a long shot and I don’t truly think we’ll do it but why not have a positive thread of why we might. I’ll start, Burton haven’t lost away in the league since December. Tougher game than its look on paper for Oxford and KR?

Wouldn’t surprise me if either Burton or Accrington gave some of the fringe players a chance.

I can see one team slipping up, I really can’t see both failing to win and us beating Hull. We go again next season and mount a title charge
  • I think both teams will be honest.
  • Pompey can easily draw that game but I fancy Oxford to beat Burton unfortunately

Just a shame we didn’t/couldn’t go for it a bit more on Tuesday just to give Oxford something to worry about even if they are winning on Sunday
  • Hull are not great, they have Magennis upfront, play well and we win.

Accrington fought all the way v us and are brutal plus drew with Pompey recently.  Pompey are not great could easily see them drop points.

    Oxford are managed by Robinson.

    Whats interesting from below is:

Charlton are better away than at home, Hull are better at home than they are away
Portsmouth are better away than at home, Accrington are better at home than they are away
Oxford are better at home than they are away, Burton are better away than they are at home

  • Put it this way, the pressure is on them.

6th spot is for them to lose.

It's not an easy situation, considering it is no longer directly in our control.

We could smash hull 5-0...and it still might not even be enough. That sort of thing can have a damaging effect.

Or, it could make us even more determined to get auto promotion next season. Who knows.

    The bookies make it 10/1.

But this league is so messed up, if you think anyone can beat anyone in the championship wait till you’ve spent a few seasons in this league.  Portsmouth will be shitting it, they’ll feel the pressure more than most.

Genuinely think Oxford will nick it, they’re good at home and burton’s little run has come to an end with just one win in five.

As for us not got a clue, we could easily miserably lose 0-2, or turn up and smash Hull.
  • Sky obviously favour Portsmouth to do it since they've picked them for the TV game
  • The bookies make it 10/1.

10/1 for us to finish 6th?

That is tempting via lump sum
  • The only reason i can find is that it's league one, a division where pretty much anything can happen.

Portsmouth, Oxford and us seem just as likely to all fail to win as we are to go out and put in 3 convincing home wins.
  • After Sunday the suffering will finally be over...

...for a couple of months at least

  • Sunday's matches:

    Blackpool v Bristol Rovers (R)
    Sunderland v Northampton (R)
    Lincoln v AFC Wimbledon

    Pompey v Accrington
    Oxford v Burton
    Charlton v Hull

Reasons to be optimistic? How about this ...

Blackpool will beat relegated Rovers to clinch 3rd spot. Sunderland and Lincoln will then be fighting to see who has the second leg of their play-off match at home. Either way I would expect Sunderland to triumph over the two legs.

If Sunderland are in a play-off final that can only mean one opponent: the Charlton Athletic Football Club.

And, as we all know, that means only one outcome: promotion for Nads and co with Tommy bashing out 25-minute guitar solos in the centre-circle at Wembley at full-time.

Given we know how the story is going to end we surely get the combo of results we need on Sunday and then turn over the Satsumas in the play-off semi-final.

Not such a bad season after all, eh?

Yes we are 10/1 to finish 6th with Bet365 and BetVictor.

Or you can get 11/1 with William Hills if you do the following:
    Charlton to win
    Burton or draw
    Accrington or draw
  • 2 years ago we were behind both Portsmouth and Sunderland going into the final day. They both cocked up, we won came 3rd above them both.
  • We wouldn't have won the playoffs anyway

  • Seeing as this is supposed to be a positive thread......

Pressure is on Pompey as its theirs to lose. Also not been on great form & on any given day are prone to players getting sent off or scoring OG's.

Oxford are managed by Gobinson. Burton managed by Mr fat shorts. The latter owes us a favour for his 1 season wanderlust. He only scored 2 league goals for us - both against old teams of his. He will now get a hat trick of sorts by beating our rival.

We play Hull. The ghosts of players past adorned this fixture with Killer's goal of the season taking pride of place. Another 3-0 is on the cards.
  • A reason to be optimistic for Sunday?

Bacon baguette and  BBQ flavoured Pringle’s.
  • Is that you Golfie?!
  • Wouldn't be surprised to see Charlton win.
Unfortunately at least one of the other two will as well.
Just amazed that after going 22 games for 23 points earlier this season that we've took it to the last day.

    That's not right, Golfie.

I mean it's not right you being positive. It must have been tough for you but it confuses everyone.
  • Just put a £5 bet on Charlton to Win, Portsmouth to draw and Oxford to lose
    Got 48/1
Says it all but you never know think positive
  • We wouldn't have won the playoffs anyway
You mean against Sunderland who haven't beaten us this season, Lincoln who we beat comfortably last night or Blackpool where we had our worst display of the season and beat them away.  Or is that a different playoffs?

And that is why we aren't clearly either promoted or already in the play offs.  You can't have 4 months of relegation form and expect to go up.
It's still possible, that in its self is a minor miracle.

They know Portsmouth have more fans that are likely to watch, is probably what it is. They'll show Hull getting the trophy after the game so they know their fans with Sky will watch that.
  • Going to put an accy on for Oxford, Portsmouth draw and us to win
