GK coaches come and go. Often certain coaches seem to suit certain keepers, didn't we have one that Amos liked who went to Millwall?0

He seemed to be more than a keeper coach, under Bowyer at least.
Seemed a good guy and will be a shame if he goes but a higher division under a manager he knows and in an area he knows.

Would obviously welcome Deano back.
He seems to be Woy's go to GK coach and now Hodgson looks unlikely to manage again he possibly needs to find new employment.
Would he drop to L1? Maybe because of his history with us.
If we don't go for Deano maybe we should try to get an older keeper who could double up as bench warmer thus allowing AMB to secure a loan.1 -
Deano is of course a Charlton legend, and seemed pretty knowledgeable about the game, but I've no idea how good he is as a GK coach, which is a very specific role2

Obviously Deano can do the job, but he might be no better or worse than someone we haven't heard of or someone already at the club. A GK coach at Gillingham or Lincoln, working with inferior keepers than at Palace might be doing a better job in improving them. Lee Turner for example worked really well with Ben Amos during his first spell with us

I suspect it was Turner's influence that made him sign for us. They worked together at Bolton before he came to us. He also followed Turner to Millwall.killerandflash said:

Maybe Nigle will take the keepers himself and get another "out field" coach in and around the place.
Any idea who Adkins has had as a goal keeper coach in the past? Specifically intrested in when he was at Reading with Roddy

In my few visits to the Valley I sit near the dugouts. In his early days as Charlton's no.1 keeper, Phillips was constantly looking over to Marshall for advice and encouragement. I reckon Marshall played a major part in Phillips' rapid development, as you'd of course expect from a specialist keeper coach.
As said, Bowyer also talked a lot to Marshall during games, probably over tactics, as I doubt the chat was about TV or where they were going for a drink and a bite after the game. Every manager has his confidantes and advisers, Bowyer and Marshall, if not Taylor and Clough, seem to make a good team.0 -

Charlton Athletic are pleased to welcome Glyn Shimell as the club’s new Goalkeeper Coach.
Shimell is highly regarded in the game and is a UEFA A licensed goalkeeping coach.
The former AFC Wimbledon and Bromley goalkeeper will meet the Charlton players for the first time during pre-season training.
He said: “Joining Charlton was an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down. I know Jason Euell and some of the club’s other coaches as you come across people when you are working in football and I’m also very aware of the talented goalkeepers currently at the club across the different age groups.
“I met with [Technical Director] Ged Roddy and then had a long meeting with [Manager] Nigel Adkins. It was good speaking with Nigel about what he wants from the role, especially as he is a former goalkeeper himself. I’m looking forward to getting started, meeting the players and the rest of the staff.”
Adkins said: “I’m pleased to welcome Glyn to Charlton Athletic. I am delighted to have him as part of the coaching setup, I'm really looking forward to working with him.”
Roddy said: “We’re very pleased to be able to bring Glyn to the club. He has an excellent reputation in the footballing world and a proven track record of improving and developing goalkeepers.
“As part of the process we consulted with Eric Steele, who is a legend in the goalkeeping fraternity. Eric has worked with a lot of goalkeepers and goalkeeping coaches over his incredible career and was full of praise for the work Glyn does.”
Shimell spent six years as First-Team Goalkeeping Coach at Bromley before becoming Millwall’s Lead Academy Goalkeeping Coach in 2018 and has also worked with the FA.
Former Goalkeeper Coach Andy Marshall will be leaving the club after three years at Charlton. The club would like to thank Andy for his efforts during his time at The Valley.
Adkins added: “I would like to thank Andy for everything he has done since I arrived at Charlton and wish him the best for the future
