I hesitate to mention it but I see that the team from Suffolk have signed Louie Barry, the 18 year old winger/striker, on a season’s loan from Aston Villa. This is the lad that Barcelona pinched from West Brom at 16 and who Villa bought for just under £1million, with several million of potential add-ons. My friend’s Villa-supporting husband is a close friend of the family.
Barry is regarded as one of the outstanding 18 year olds in the country and, provided he’s not knackered by some big, hairy League 1 centre-half, his pace and trickery are likely to prove a handful at this level.
He’s a player that all clubs will be aware of but Ipswich really are pushing the boat out.
Surely he'd be getting a Championship gig if he was THAT good?!
I'm sure he's skillful but would be surprised if he's been allowed to go to League 1 just because of money.
I'll keep an eye on him this season as I am intrigued by your info @Blucher
I expect that Villa want to ease him into men’s football at League 1 level, a bit like they did with Grealish at Notts County.
I agree that it’s unlikely to be money-driven, given that Villa are not really cash-strapped at the moment, having trousered £100 million from Man City, even taking into account their three new signings. They will, however, want a substantial chunk of Barrie’s wages covered and I expect that put Ipswich in pole position in our division.
As you say, it will be interesting to see how he gets on.
In an Evening Standard interview with Adkins published tonight he’s said:
I'd like to think we'll bring some more players in,” he said.
“That's what we're striving to do. And I'm sure by the end of transfer window we'll have brought more players in to help the whole group. There's active targets we've been after, we're very close to.
“Likewise so are other clubs, I like to think we're looking at good football players.
He couldn't be more non committal if he tried.
"I'd LIKE to think we'll bring some more players in".
"There are active targets we've been after.....likewise, so are other clubs"
No shit sherlock. The over riding objective this summer was to replace around 16 players who had left (out of contract & loans). We've replaced 5 & re-signed 4. Our first 11 tomorrow on paper looks quite strong. But that's it. The subs bench is either players over the age of 34 and only signed to be bit part players, or U23's with very little league experience. We might do alright for 60 mins but once the subs make an appearance it will be men v boys.
Seen from a couple of Crewe fans that Kirk will be announced Monday
Give it up .
...In the words of Rick Astley.....
Hadn't thought of that but it seems to me that desire is overcoming rationality here. No signing in 4 weeks and Ipswich are now into getting super prem loans from Aston Villa in the form of a flying 18 year old winger.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the team appear to a new theme song, ref ,
Busy doing nothing working the whole day through trying to find lots of players not to sign . Rick never sang that one.
One of the things that has really stayed with me following last year’s shenanigans is the messages I received from people who had feared they would never be able to take their kids to the Valley. Today, finally, against the odds: we’re going home. Come on you reds! #cafc
Think sums it up nicely … just puts in perspective

So you admit they are trying to find lots of players, so not totally negative...your really a closet glass half full aren't you
Be curious to see if they signed him in time for todays game
Nothing mentioned on their site whether he is eligible for tonight so doubt it
Unless I’m mistaken, I make that their 6th loan signing already. I just can’t help but think they’re in a not so dissimilar position to us 12 months ago. A little desperate and after players that others didn’t really want. I’m not saying they won’t still be dangerous though and they’ve still a lot of their players from last year still on their books.

Yeah its very much how I'm viewing Sheffield Wednesday as well this season
Certainly shades of last season with us

Prospective new Charlton owner Paul Elliott and lawyer Chris Farnell have both had their applications to take over the League One club rejected by the Football League.
#cafc fans visit the office of Farnell in Hale, Cheshire
Just puts a reality check on everything .. let’s not forget this time last year we would have taken Dover at home in the national league just to have a club .. but here we are we have a club an owner to be proud off and today we have a club to support

And his wiki says "By February 2020 he had scored 21 goals in 20 games for England's youth teams".
If we'd signed him, we'd be wetting ourselves.
