Who are your legends & bell-ends?

A little bit of fun & light relief. The word “legend” is used too easily in sport, but I’d be interested to find out which players you, dear reader, class as your top 10 Charlton legends & who are your all-time Charlton bell-ends (ie you wish they’d never worn the mighty red shirt). The only rule is you must have seen them play, so no votes for Sam Bartram or John Hewie if you’re under 55.

It’s not as easy as it sounds, but here are my choices -

Legends - in no particular order

Derek Hales
Colin Powell
Keith Peacock
John Humphrey
Bob Bolder
Mark Kinsella
Chris Powell
Johnnie Jackson
Clive Mendonca
Richard Rufus

Bell-ends

El-Hadji Ba
Emmanuel Frimpong
Yohann Thuram
Christophe LePoint
Mike Small

Murphy, if the story of him saying to a member of staff that his watch cost more than her salary, is the very definition of “bell-end”.  Similarly, my aunt, who asked my Grandad, her father, for petrol money for taking him 3 miles to hospital when he was severely ill.

My Grandad, who sort of supported us, is my definition of a legend  Volunteered in 1916 whist underaged. Spent seven years in a mental home after, and because of, the war. Threw bricks at the fascists in Brick Lane. Got himself locked up during the depression as it was the only way to get income support for his wife and kids.

How on earth did I forget. I won’t go back and edit, because then you’d look like a bell end.

Not only does he steal people’s  money, but he stole somebody’s place in my team. Amended now.

So many legends in my eyes. Too many bellends to mention.
  • Mention legends, and in my mind I have a mix of players from the mid to late 80's First Division team and 1998 - 2004' ish Premier League team.

Mention Bellends and my list is limited to Roland's "place men" - Thuram being the best example.

Worrying lack of mentions for Carl Leaburn so far. You need to take a good long look at yourselves, the man is indeed a legend.

Kermorgant was a personal hero of mine, someone I irrationally love given I never have or will meet him, a true "hero" in that regard.

With regards to bell-ends, only one really stands out as I don't like hating Charlton players, but Kerkar, I really fucking hated him, called him "shirker" and would spit on the ground when I heard his name for a few months. Useless prick.

‘Christophe Lepoint pulled the strings in an emphatic performance for bellend Charlton that left 2021 Charlton chasing shadows.’
