A farce - there are three utterly hopeless teams in England's group. These games serve no purpose if they're not competitive.0

Someone just sent me a video of the Latvia goalkeeper taking a goal kick.Absolute farce.1

Austria beat Luxembourg 8-0 and N Ireland beat Nth Macedonia 9-0 in the other group games.

When I was a kid I played a game once where we only had 7 players for the whole match and no goalkeeper. The opposing manager offered us some of their players but our manager wouldnt have it and made us play with 7.
It was 4-4 at half time, but we caved in second half and lost 19-4.
Kids football, only seven players, no goalkeeper. And we still didnt concede 20.

33 shots off target is pretty poor tbh0

Feel I bit silly. Had £20 on Latvia to win.13

Ireland beat Georgia 11-0. The Georgian keeper was hopeless. Its always been one of the biggest weaknesses in the women's game0

there’s also some evidence that the choice for tall women with good hand skills, isn’t football at school, it’s netball, and so the coaching isn’t done there.0 -
Happened to see most of their game yesterday. Was painfully embarrassing. Doesn’t do anything to help improve the women’s game. At least the likes of San Marino have some defensive shape when they are playing against the bigger nations in men’s qualifying.1

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - women’s game desperately need to play on smaller pitches and with smaller goals.8

England women beat Austria 1-0 last week and some said make the goals bigger !
I saw a game between Chelsea and Man city Woman 3 years ago and the score was 0-0 and the two keepers were the best players on the pitch. When more tall woman choice football over netball, basketball, trampoling etc, then keepers will improve.
I was at a Step 5 game (mens) last night so only saw the last 15 minutes of the miss/ms match at HT in the clubhouse of this embarrassing game. I support girls/woman's football but even I was saying in front of a packed small clubhouse, if this was boxing it would be stopped and when are England going to declare; its just not cricket even if it was a cricket score. The professional England team were excellent.
@kentaddick watch Chelsea v Arsenal in the woman's final and say that comment after that; too many San Marino's in the woman's game and that leads to Pro woman's team thrashing the minnows.
Sometime soon I really believe England can beat the powerhouse in woman's football the USA where girls play football from kindergarten. The elite female players have left the newbies so far behind that instead of England getting praised as winners the routed get laughed at and that really isn't progress for the sport.
* first round qualifying match for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Tonga 0 Australia 22
It happens in men's football too !

Three of the teams in England's game were thrashed in the latest round of games.
It does nothing for the women's game for these games to be televised.
The standard at the top has improved dramatically but further down the level is very poor.0 -
The Latvia netball team must be amazing

There are 4 or 5 pro leagues in Europe now, and unless you have players good enough to play in those, you're going to struggle.
Shows what investment in a sport does at the top level3 -

Perhaps there should be two tiers in women's international football with a play off situation between the tiers deciding promotion and relegation.
Women's football has to be encouraged and promoted. The England team are really good, but they can only play who's in front of them. Winning by these extremely large margins does neither the victor or loser any favours at all.1 -
I don't know why the goals aren't a bit smaller in women's football. The chances of the women goalkeepers being 6 foot plus are very slim, so you get a load of goals that just loop in because the keepers are too small for the size of goal.4
-
The goal/pitch size argument is at best patronising, look at results in WSL over the last couple of months, there aren't any more big scores than you would see in pro men's football.
