Not a single one was called and the 3rd umpire responsible for checking didn’t tell the infield umpire to tell Ben to watch his front foot. You can say a bowler shouldn’t be bowling no-balls which is fair but, for someone who’s been out of the game for a period of time, desperate to make a breakthrough and known for pushing himself to the absolute limit, the umpires have a duty to give him that information. In terms of performance I feel that yesterday went as well as we could have hoped for up until the last hour. The extended days play for a reduced bowling attack suffering with fitness and injury problems, Australia could take advantage of that late in the day. Obviously the dropped catch and missed run outs are things that could have been the difference between a lead of 120 odd or 250 but it just shows you have to be absolutely flawless when playing Ashes cricket and I think our current group just aren’t experienced, technically able or (barring a couple) fully understand playing test cricket. It’s obviously a lot easier to sit and say what I think they should do compared to them facing 90mph hostile bowling from Hazwelwood, Cummins and Starc but I just don’t feel like any of our batsmen other than Root and Stokes have the patience, ability or frame of mind to just stick around ignoring the score for an hour and just properly getting themselves in like Labuschagne did.Tonight might be the first night I don’t watch the entire days play. If we are 50/4 again at lunch then I’ll probably write this one off and watch the NFL before going to sleep.
The third umpire calling every no ball was not an option. So, we don't know how many no balls either side have bowled that have been missed in this match. But we do know of one, very expensive one.
It's 100% Stokes's fault.2 -

Today is an example of what we can do to this bowling attack when we show some grit.
Hazlewood seems to have been carrying an injury and by being patient initially (mostly Hameed) we saw bowlers into their 2nd and 3rd spells. Starc was expensive and Lyon didnt really threaten. Cummins was forced to use Lyon much more and earlier than he would have wanted and the same with Green. Once you're in that position its much easier to keep the score ticking over when Cummins was bowling and attack the other bowlers.3 -
It's crucial to attack the support bowlers,in the same way the Aussies targeted Leach. Having a good spinner holding an end makes so much difference, it's no coincidence that we had Swann in 2010/11 when we won here2

"The technology used for that process is currently unavailable for this Test match due to technical problems, and as such, the responsibility to check front-foot no-balls has fallen back to the on-field umpire.Officials are hopeful the no-ball technology will be available again as soon as possible".0 -
Was at the Test yesterday, absolutely fantastic comeback from the boys.
Hameed is the real deal, Australia at the Gabba is as tough as it gets and he looked like he was playing park cricket, completely in control.
Malan rode his luck but played some cracking shots and Root really showed his class.
India showed the way last year, you have to grind the Aussies down, keep them in the field and wear down their pace bowlers and batting gets easier and easier.

Bugger. England will struggle to take it to the 5th day now0

Appalling shot by Root, lucky not to get out last ball last night.0
-
Two more wickets down already and neither to balls that were anything special.0

Is this a test cricket thing or just England?
I've lost count of the times we've gone in after a good day batting only for that good work to be undone in the first 5 overs of the next day.
