F1 ceased being a competitive sport in Abu Dhabi. Corruption conquered fair play. What is the point to invest any time and emotion in it again?13

Our sources are telling us that things are unravelling fast in the paddock and beyond in the F1 / motorsport world.
Lewis is exceptionally relaxed because I would guess he knows this is all going to come to a head later down the line.
Anyone old enough will remember the Balestre / Senna / Prost dynamic. This is that on steroids. Liberty are turning it into a WWE / Entertainment format and Lewis will have no interest in being a part of that nor does he need to.6 -

Hamilton won't retire. I suspect that now that the dust has settled many teams will be disturbed at how Liberty are running things and will be lobbying for changes next season. It is amazing how they have grabbed a crisis from a very positive position.1

Liberty are turning it into a WWE / Entertainment format and Lewis will have no interest in being a part of that nor does he need to.I was worried about what Liberty would bring but aside from ads during qualifying I can only see upsides. The production is tonnes better, the Netflix series’ adds tonnes of insight and is getting more and more people into the sport and if the hype is to believed then the regulation changes will bring better, more competitive racing. I’d guarantee more people watch next season than did this one.2 -
I’ve had some time to think about it all and reflect and, I’ve realized that after the shock of the events of Sunday, I’m now feeling more philosophical.
1) On deeper reflection, I’m ok with Verstappen being champion. At the end of the day, he deserved it on balance. The way it was won wasn’t ok, and I hoped he wouldn’t, but he is a deserving champion. I don’t like him, but he’s an outstanding driver.
2) An unexpected positive consequence of this is that the very people Masi was trying to appease with his antics are the very people (apart from Masi himself) who are getting and will continue to get the most flak from it. Liberty media’s name is worse than shit at the moment and everyone knows it.
3) I don’t want the title given to Hamilton and I’m sure it won’t be. I doubt he does either. He knows it was a stitch up and so does everyone else, including the vast hordes of Max fans/Lewis haters who still, bizarrely, claim Hamilton is crying and a sore loser. Irony is lost on these people. I’m starting to think Hamilton’s legacy may be strengthened even more (long term) by the perceived injustice.
4) Whatever happens to the sport now, it’ll be too late to fix the astonishing mess of this season, but hopefully it’ll resolve some elements of the sport that have needed fixing for a while now.
5) Michael Masi surely must be out of a job soon, so that’s a positive.
6) As much as they grabbed the gifted title with both hands, Horner and Verstappen are fully aware of how tainted it is. They’ll claim it was fair and fine, but we all know they know it. That must be killing them inside. 😂
So I’ve made peace with it. It’s still one of the biggest travesties in sport I’ve ever seen, but there are a few positives and I’m latching on to them. 😎5 -

We make most of our money from Lewis from brokering new brand partnership deals. And they are now drying out due to LH putting a freeze on longer term commitments (make of that what you will).2 -
Rothko said:I don’t think Mercedes are happy till Masi goesI saw that they’re stopping communication between teams and the race director which I think is good but it’s a shame that we won’t get the radio messages anymore.I quite liked the suggestion elsewhere of having a third party to explain decisions to teams on the radio.0

So today is the day, what do we reckon?
Have a feeling they'll drop it, but really hope they don't...Even if they have no intention of over turning the result. Show Masi & the FIA up for the circus they are, get the result they want, reject it and walk away tarnishing the drivers title.2 -
This is getting huge now. FIA NEVER put statements like that out on their own channels. I think they have the begging bowl out to Merc to stop the appeal as they are worried Merc will uncover a lot.
I also have a feeling they will drop the appeal - but only on the proviso that Masi goes (I actually think multiple heads will roll).
Merc will be loving all of this as it is basically as close as you will ever get to the FIA saying 'we fucked this up big time'.
Verstappen now without doubt has a massively tainted title. Explains why Lewis was so relaxed on Sunday!5
