The British public having that decision of “do I go to sleep yet” after 4am being taken out of their hands.

Considering how things have gone so far in the series, I suppose we have to say that by the end of play we had a fairly good day…..get Smith early doors and we’ll be in with a chance of dismissing them for a less than respectable total.
  • Anyone know whether play's likely to start on time tonight, please ?

It seems that playing Leech to act as a "containment" bowler is like starting with a defender up front just because he is tall.

A bowler is supposed to take wickets. If he can't then he shouldn't be playing. Root is a better spinner.....and can score runs to boot  !!

  • And Leach isn't containing the Aussies either

Imagine our number 5 had contracted Covid prior to this Test and we had to weaken the side by bringing in someone with almost 3,000 Test runs to his name at an average of 41 to replace him. You've got to feel sorry for the Aussies.

It's not even a certainty that the slightly tubby groundsman is even going to be able to clear the toblerone boundary markers let alone beat his colleague to the square!

What's the spread for the Aussies 1st innings....???

    380-420 is my guess.

That's Stokes gone and why he can never captain England
  • And now Stokes walks off with a problem

And using Stokes to pound the ball into the ground every single ball isn't just a negative tactic but also achieves a negative result - he has to leave the field with a side strain that could mean him not bowling again in the Series

It was in keeping with our record of having only Bangladesh below us in terms of dropped catches in the last calendar year. Difference is that  they can still win Down Under!

Best way to get someone out is to pitch it up. Half trackers just lead to cuts & pulls. We haven't a clue & will be chasing a big total again. But batting will look a lot harder when we come to bat I can tell you that.

Broad gets a couple of wickets with the new ball.

First, Smith nicks off for 67 and Green caught in the slips for 5.

    249-5 with Khawaja 57 and Carey 1.
